Description
A reversing HGV puts its full weight into your dock wall, and the trailer keeps moving after it lands: it sinks as a forklift drives on and rises as the forklift comes off. This rubber and steel dock bumper is built for that movement. Fix one either side of the dock leveller and the trailer meets a smooth yellow face that slides with it, with a rubber packer behind to take the impact and a galvanised steel cradle to carry the load back into the structure. It suits distribution centres, factories and any busy goods-in door where a torn fixed buffer has become a repeat job.
This dock bumper has a large impact area with no holes in the UHMWPE face plate for the back of the truck to snag on. The 50mm thick face can slide freely up and down in its steel cradle back plate. Compresses 11mm under 15 tonne load.

Why It Works
The face moves with the trailer
A fixed rubber buffer grips the trailer and gets dragged each time the suspension rises and falls, which is what tears it. Here the 50mm face plate is free to slide up and down inside its steel cradle, so that movement is taken by a low friction surface instead of the rubber.
Nothing on the face to catch
The UHMWPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) face has no holes, so there are no bolt heads or recesses for the back of a truck to snag on across its whole 750mm length. All six fixing holes sit in the back plate, behind the face. The yellow also gives a driver a clear reference point when reversing.
A known compression figure
The assembly compresses 11mm under a 15 tonne load, so you can check the stand-off against your own dock and leveller rather than guessing.
Repair the part that is damaged
The back plate and angle bracket are sold separately on this page, so one bent plate does not mean ordering a complete assembly.
Where It's Used
This bumper goes on the dock face either side of a dock leveller or door opening, at distribution centres, manufacturing plants and goods-in bays taking articulated trailers. At 760mm it covers more height than a 465mm bumper, which helps where trailer bed heights vary.
Stopping trailers over-riding the dock
Where a trailer bed sits low enough to ride over the leveller, a bumper at dock height is not enough. The angle bracket lets the back plate and bumper be fixed 150mm above dock height. M24 bolts pass through the two 26mm holes at the top of the back plate into the bracket's threaded holes, and the bracket's two 26mm clear holes are left for fixing it down. Installation, Use & Care
At 46kg this is a two-person or lifting-aid job. Fix the back plate into sound structure. The supplied M16 through anchors are for fixing directly to sound concrete, so have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock, because the bumper can only pass on what the wall can take. Mark out from the drawing above, then offer the back plate up and check the holes against it before you drill. The two washers suit the larger 26mm holes at the top, where a 16mm stud would otherwise sit loose.
Inspect the face, packer and fixings as part of your routine dock checks and replace damaged parts before the steel starts taking hits. A bumper protects the building and the vehicle from routine docking contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
FAQ
How many dock bumpers do I need per door?
Most loading bays use two, one on each side of the dock leveller, so the trailer lands evenly. The price shown is for one unit, so add quantity 2 for a typical door.
What fixings come with the bumper?
The Dock Bumper option includes 6 M16 through-anchor studs, 125 to 140mm long, matching the six holes in the back plate, and 2 washers (50mm OD, 16mm ID, 3mm thick), for fixing directly to sound concrete. The M24 bolts used with the angle bracket are not part of this set.
What is UHMWPE and why use it on a dock bumper?
UHMWPE is ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, a tough plastic with a slippery, wear-resistant surface. On this bumper it forms the part the trailer touches, so it slides against the trailer rather than dragging the rubber behind it.
Can I buy just the back plate or the angle bracket?
Yes. Pick Back Plate or Angle Bracket from the options above. The back plate is the same cradle used in this bumper, and the bracket raises the assembly 150mm above dock height.
What hole pattern does the back plate have?
Six holes in two rows, about 150mm across and 325mm apart: two at the top at 26mm for M24 bolts, two halfway down and two at the bottom at 20mm. The top pair also connect to the angle bracket when you mount above the dock.
