Description
A reversing HGV lands on your dock wall with its full weight, then keeps moving: the trailer sinks as a forklift drives on and rises as it comes off. This 750 x 250 x 115mm dock bumper is built for both. An SBR rubber body takes the landing, and a yellow low-friction UHMWPE front plate takes the rubbing that follows. It is similar in many respects to a standard 750mm rubber dock bumper, with the plate added. When that plate wears, you replace the plate and keep the rest of the bumper. It suits distribution centres, factories and goods-in doors where plain rubber buffers keep tearing, and you can buy the complete bumper or either part from this page.
Why a plated bumper outlasts plain rubber
The plate takes the wear. Plain rubber grips the back of a trailer and gets dragged every time the suspension moves, which is how a buffer ends up torn. Here the trailer meets 35mm of slippery UHMWPE instead, so that movement happens against a low-friction surface and the rubber is left to do the cushioning.
The rubber wraps the plate. The front plate sits 20mm into a recess in the rubber body and stands 15mm proud, with a rubber rim around it, and the housing adds strength as a trailer compresses the bumper.
The fixings sit below the surface. Each of the three holes is 70mm wide for the first 80mm from the face, then 27mm through to the wall. The fixing head sits down inside the bumper, not on the surface the trailer touches.
You only replace what is damaged. The front plate and the rubber element are each sold on their own. A worn face does not mean buying a complete bumper, and it does not mean drilling a new set of holes in the dock wall.

Need something different? The 450 x 250 x 115mm bumper is the shorter version with a low friction panel. The 760 x 275 x 165mm bumper stands further off the wall. The 750 x 250 x 100mm rubber bumper has no plate, and suits lighter-use doors where trailers land and stay still. Measure your existing stand-off before changing depth, because it sets the gap between the trailer and the leveller.
Fitting and care
Mark out from the drawing above: three holes at 275mm centres, with the first 100mm in from the end. Offer the bumper up and check the holes against it before you drill. Fix into sound concrete or structure, and have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock, because a bumper can only pass on what the wall can take. Most docks fit them upright, level with each other, either side of the leveller. At 22kg one person can lift it, but two make it far easier to hold in line while fixing.
Check the face, rubber and fixings during your routine dock inspections. Replace the plate before it wears through to the rubber. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine docking contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
How many dock bumpers do I need per door?
Most loading bays use two, one each side of the dock leveller, so the trailer lands evenly on both. The price shown is for one bumper, so add a quantity of 2 for a typical door.
What is UHMWPE and why use it on a dock bumper?
UHMWPE is ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, a tough plastic with a slippery, wear-resistant surface. Here it forms the part the trailer touches, so the trailer slides against it rather than dragging on the rubber behind it.
Can I buy just the front plate or the rubber element?
Yes. Choose Front Plate or Rubber Element from the options at the top of this page. Both are the parts used in this 750 x 250 x 115mm bumper, so they are the ones to order when one part is damaged and the other is still sound.
Is the plate better than a plain rubber bumper?
On doors where trailers move while being loaded, usually yes, because plain rubber takes that dragging directly and the plate takes it here instead. On a lightly used door a plain rubber bumper costs less and can be enough, so match it to how busy the door is.
