Description

A welding arc throws out ultraviolet light that can burn the eyes of anyone nearby, not just the welder. "Arc eye" is painful, and it happens to people walking past or working at the next bench. These free-standing mobile welding screens put a barrier of orange-red anti-UV welding PVC around the work, so welding can happen in a shared workshop while colleagues, visitors and passers-by stay protected. The PVC is to EN 1598, the European standard for transparent welding curtains, strips and screens, and it is translucent, so people outside can still see that someone is welding inside. No fixing to the floor or walls: assemble the frame, fit the PVC and stand it where you need it. Five models, from a single-sheet screen to a 4.1m wide screen on castors with side arms.

Which screen do I need?

Model Width x height PVC Frame Best for
Single sheet, click-lock frame 1515 x 1900mm One sheet, base clips to the frame sides Click-lock, free standing on feet Light, low cost screen for occasional welding and small bays
Single sheet, bolted frame 1475 x 1900mm One sheet, base secured to a lower bar Bolted, free standing on feet A full, unbroken screen that stays in place at a fixed welding bay
5 strips, bolted frame 2065 x 1900mm 5 overlapping strips on rings and clips Bolted, free standing on feet Wider bays where people need to walk through the screen
5 strips, on castors 1960 x 1900mm 5 overlapping strips on rings and clips Bolted, on castors Welding that moves around the workshop
15 strips, on castors with side arms 4115 x 1900mm 15 overlapping strips on rings and clips Bolted, on castors, with detachable side arms that pivot 360° Large fabrication bays, or wrapping round a job on three sides

Strip models let people walk through the screen; single-sheet models give an unbroken barrier. All are 1900mm high.

Why it works

Protects the people around the welder. The anti-UV PVC cuts the harmful ultraviolet from the arc, so it does not reach people outside the screen, while the orange-red tint lets them see the work is going on. It also helps contain spatter and glare, and takes the edge off noise.

Moves when the work moves. Unlike a fixed welding curtain, a mobile screen goes wherever today's job is, and comes down for storage when it is not needed. The castor models roll into place.

Quick to put up. Each screen is a complete kit with assembly instructions. Assembly takes roughly 10 to 25 minutes depending on the model, with basic hand tools for the bolted frames. No floor fixing or permanent mounting.

Using it safely

A welding screen protects the people around the welder. It does not replace the welder's own helmet, eye protection, gloves and clothing, or fume extraction. Stand the screen between the arc and anyone nearby, close enough to block the line of sight to the arc, and keep it clear of hot work so spatter does not build up on the PVC. Use it indoors: wind can blow a free-standing screen over.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see through it?

Partly. The orange-red PVC is translucent, so people outside can see shapes and that welding is under way, while harmful UV from the arc is cut. Do not look directly at an arc through any screen.

Can I replace damaged strips or sheets?

Yes. Strips and sheets wear with spatter and handling and can be replaced on their own. Call 01744 520 110 with your screen model and we will quote.

Do you do fixed welding curtains?

Yes. For a permanent welding bay or a doorway, see our welding strip curtain kit on a fixed rail.

Can it be used outdoors?

The screens are designed for use inside workshops and factories.
