Description
A wide dock door needs a bumper with enough length to catch trailers of different heights, but a long bumper is usually a deep one as well. This one is not. It covers 765mm of wall and stands only 66mm off the concrete, so the HGV backs in close and the gap your forklift or pallet truck has to cross stays short. A black SBR rubber front plate takes the contact. When it is worn, you lift it out and fit a new one, while the galvanised back plate and its six fixings stay on the wall.

Why a long, shallow rubber bumper works
The trailer finishes close to the dock. The whole unit measures about 66mm from the wall to the face. That matters most where the dock leveller has little spare reach, or where you are replacing deeper buffers that hold trailers further out than you would like.
More length without more depth. At 765mm it covers far more of the wall than our 465mm shallow bumper. That gives trailers of different bed heights more bumper to land on, with the same short stand-off.
The wear goes to a part you can replace. The rubber plate is the sacrificial part. It can be easily removed and replaced if it becomes damaged, so a worn face means a new plate rather than drilling the wall again. It is moulded with a flange down each long side, and those flanges sit behind the returns on the back plate.
A flat face with nothing to catch. All six fixing holes are in the steel behind the rubber. The trailer meets one flat surface, 223mm wide, with no bolt heads or recesses.
A rubber plate costs less to run. Rubber is the lower cost face for this back plate, so it suits a busy site that expects to change plates from time to time. The compound is a general purpose SBR rubber blend, 70 to 75 Shore A.
Where it is used
Distribution centres, parcel depots, food and drink goods-in, factory despatch bays and builders' merchants: anywhere HGVs reverse onto a raised concrete dock and the trailer needs to finish as close to the building as possible.

Choosing the right dock bumper
| Your situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| A long, shallow bumper at the lowest running cost | This bumper |
| Same size, but trailers rise and sink during loading and you want the face to slide | 765 x 270 x 66mm with a yellow UHMWPE face |
| Same 66mm depth on a shorter length | 465 x 270 x 66mm with a rubber face |
| More depth, with a rubber packer behind a sliding face | 760 x 270 x 110mm |
| A much deeper stand-off from the wall | 760 x 275 x 165mm |
Before you order, measure your current stand-off and check it against your dock leveller. Going shallower brings the trailer closer, so check that the trailers you handle still clear the leveller and the building. A shallow bumper also has less depth to absorb hard, repeated impacts, so look at the deeper bumpers if your bay takes them.
Fitting and care
The holes sit behind the rubber, so fix the back plate first and fit the front plate afterwards. The drawing shows the lower end of the back plate closed, so fit that end at the bottom and the plate can lift out from the top. Mark out from the drawing above, offer the back plate up and check the holes against it before you drill, then fix through all six holes into sound concrete at the height your trailers make contact. Have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock.
Check the plate and fixings during routine dock inspections, and change the plate before it wears back to the steel. A bumper protects the building and the vehicle from routine docking contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
How many dock bumpers do I need per door?
Most loading bays use two, one on each side of the dock leveller, so the trailer lands evenly. The price shown is for one bumper, so add quantity 2 for a typical door.
Does the 66mm include the steel back plate?
Yes, 66mm is the published depth from the wall to the face of the rubber. Rubber is a moulded material and can vary slightly, so allow a few millimetres either way when you check clearance, and allow for wear over time.
Can I buy a replacement rubber plate?
Yes. The 745 x 246 x 55mm rubber front plate is sold on its own, and the back plate stays fixed to the wall when you change it.
Can I change to a yellow face later?
Yes. The same back plate also takes a yellow UHMWPE front plate, the one fitted to our yellow faced version of this bumper. Call us and we will confirm the part for you.
Are the fixings included?
Yes, free fixings are included with the bumper: six M10 x 100 countersunk anchor bolts, which need a 16mm drill bit.
Ordering and delivery
Add the quantity you need above, normally two per door, and plan for about 35kg per bumper when you receive it, so two people or a lifting aid for fitting. For a delivery date, a whole site or several doors, call 01744 520 110 or email sales@industrialsuppliesco.co.uk and we will go through it with you.
