Description
Trailers rise as a forklift drives on and sink as it drives off, and a bumper that grips the trailer takes the strain every time. This one lets the trailer slide. A smooth yellow UHMWPE plate sits in a galvanised steel back plate, 765mm long and only 66mm deep, so the HGV backs in close, the gap to the trailer stays short and the back of the vehicle can move up and down along the face. It is highly visible for the driver, and when the plate is worn you change the plate, not the fixings.

Why a low friction face on a long back plate works
The trailer can slide instead of grabbing. UHMWPE is durable and has a very low coefficient of friction, so the back of the trailer can slide along the face as its height changes during loading.
The stand-off stays short. Back plate and front plate together measure 66mm from the wall to the face. That keeps the trailer close where the dock leveller has little spare reach, and it is the same depth as our shorter 470mm version.
More length for mixed fleets. At 765mm, it gives trailers of different bed heights more face to land on than the 470mm bumper does.
Easy for a driver to see. The yellow plate stands out against grey concrete, which helps when lining up in the mirrors.
The plate takes the damage. It can be easily removed and replaced if it becomes damaged, and the back plate stays on the wall. All six fixing holes are in the steel behind the plate, so the trailer meets one flat surface, 230mm wide, with no bolt heads or recesses to snag on.
A deeper plate is available. If you find you need more stand-off later, a 100mm thick plate gives an extra 50mm of projection. It is a separate part at extra cost, so call us for a price.
Where it is used
Busy goods-in and despatch bays where a forklift drives on and off the trailer all day: distribution centres, parcel depots, food and drink sites and factory loading docks where the trailer needs to finish close to the building.

Choosing the right dock bumper
| Your situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| A long, shallow bumper that lets the trailer slide | This bumper |
| Same size at a lower price, with a black rubber face | 765 x 270 x 66mm with a rubber face |
| Same yellow face and 66mm depth on a shorter length | 470 x 270 x 66mm |
| More depth, with a rubber packer behind the sliding face | 760 x 270 x 110mm |
| A much deeper stand-off from the wall | 760 x 275 x 165mm |
Before you order, measure your current stand-off and check it against your dock leveller. Going shallower brings the trailer closer, so check that the trailers you handle still clear the leveller and the building. This bumper has less depth to work with than the packer-backed bumpers, so look at those if your bay takes hard, repeated impacts.
Fitting and care
The holes sit behind the yellow plate, so fix the back plate first and fit the front plate afterwards. The drawing shows the lower end of the back plate closed, so fit that end at the bottom and the plate can lift out from the top. Mark out from the drawing above, offer the back plate up and check the holes against it before you drill, then fix through all six holes into sound concrete at the height your trailers make contact. Have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock.
Check the plate and fixings during routine dock inspections, and change the plate before it wears back to the steel. A bumper protects the building and the vehicle from routine docking contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
How many dock bumpers do I need per door?
Most loading bays use two, one on each side of the dock leveller, so the trailer lands evenly. The price shown is for one bumper, so add quantity 2 for a typical door.
Does the 66mm include the steel back plate?
Yes. 66mm is the full depth from the wall to the front of the yellow plate, so that is the stand-off you get before the trailer touches. Allow for wear on the plate over time.
Can I buy a replacement yellow plate?
Yes. The 750 x 250 x 50mm UHMWPE front plate is sold on its own, and the back plate stays fixed to the wall when you change it.
Does the yellow face work in the cold or the wet?
The back plate is galvanised steel for an open yard, and the plate is solid UHMWPE. A service temperature range is not published for this line, so call us if your dock is in a cold store.
Are the fixings included?
Yes, free fixings are included with the bumper: six M10 x 100 countersunk anchor bolts, which need a 16mm drill bit.
Ordering and delivery
Add the quantity you need above, normally two per door, and plan for about 30kg per bumper when you receive it, so two people or a lifting aid for fitting.
