Description
A large two channel lidded cable ramp for thick cables and hoses, rated to 12 tonnes per axle. This heavy rubber ramp section carries two cables or hoses across a road, yard or site entrance under a bright yellow hinged lid. Each channel is about 84mm wide at the base, 92mm at the top and 75mm deep, so it takes heavy generator leads, bundled cables and flexible pump hoses that will not fit in standard drop-over ramps. The section is 900mm long, 615mm wide and 100mm high, and sections click together end to end to cover any width of crossing. It is for temporary use, with traffic kept to 5 mph. Each section weighs about 26kg. The price is for one section.
Why this ramp works
Two big channels. At roughly 84 to 92mm wide and 75mm deep, the channels take round cables and hoses up to about 75mm across, such as 3 inch layflat or suction hose, 125A and larger power cables, or a bundle of smaller leads tied together.
Built for vehicles. The wide rubber base spreads the load over 615mm of road, and the ramp is rated for 12 tonnes per vehicle axle, so cars, vans and lorries can cross at 5 mph or less. The long, shallow slopes carry a raised chequer tread for grip.
Change cables without lifting the ramp. The yellow lid hinges up along one edge. You can add or remove a cable or hose while the ramps stay where they are, which saves lifting 26kg sections on a live site.
Clicks together. Lugs on one end fit the slots on the next section, so a run stays in a straight line and the channels line up.

Where it is used
Use it on building site haul roads and gateways, for over-pumping and dewatering where suction and delivery hoses cross a lane or yard, at festivals and outdoor events to bring generator power across service roads, in depots and car parks, and at film and TV locations. The yellow lid makes the crossing easy to see on tarmac and concrete.

Sizes are approximate. Rubber can shrink slightly as it cures, so allow a few millimetres either way. The maker's drawing shows the channels a little larger than the figures above, so treat these as the minimum.
Choosing the right ramp
Count your cables or hoses and measure the thickest one, including any couplings that have to pass through. This ramp suits two thick runs up to about 75mm. For more but thinner cables, a three channel ramp is a better fit. For a single large hose up to 100mm, choose a ramp with a deeper channel.

How to lay it
- Choose firm, level ground such as concrete or tarmac. Do not let the ramp bridge over holes or soft ground.
- Lift the lid and lay one cable or hose in each channel.
- Close the lid, making sure nothing is trapped under the edge.
- Click further sections on with the end lugs until the crossing is covered.
- Put signs in place to slow traffic to 5 mph.
Care
Wash off mud and grit with water. Check the lid hinge and the end lugs before each use. If a lid cracks or will not close flat, call us, as replacement yellow lids can be ordered. At 26kg each, lift with two people or with care, and store the sections flat.
Frequently asked questions
Can lorries drive over it?
Yes, up to 12 tonnes per vehicle axle at 5 mph or less, with signs in place to slow traffic. It is not suitable for forklift trucks, whose small hard wheels put too much load on one spot.
Will a 3 inch hose fit?
A round hose up to about 75mm across fits, as the channels are 75mm deep. Measure the outside diameter of your hose, not the bore, and check any couplings that have to pass through the channel.
How many sections do I need?
Each section covers about 900mm of road. Divide the width of the crossing in metres by 0.9 and round up. A 4m gateway needs 5 sections.
Can I leave it down permanently?
No. It is made for temporary use. For a permanent crossing, cables and pipes should be routed in a proper duct.
