Description

A low, lidded cable ramp that carries two cables or hoses safely across a route. This 1m ramp section has two channels, each for one cable or hose up to 32mm across, under a bright yellow hinged lid. It is 250mm wide and only 50mm high, with black chequer plate slopes on both sides. Sections link end to end with built-in connectors, so you can build a run as long as your crossing. It is for temporary use on firm ground: site entrances, yards, events and car parks, with traffic kept to 5 mph. Each section weighs about 6.8kg. The price is for one 1m section.

Dimension drawing of the cable ramp: 1000mm long, 250mm wide, 50mm high, two channels 33mm wide by 34mm high

Why this ramp works

Two separate channels. Keep power and data apart, or a cable and a water hose, each in its own channel about 33mm wide and 34mm high.

Hinged lid for easy access. Lift the yellow lid to lay cables in or take them out, without moving the ramp. Closed, the bright yellow shows up clearly against the black ramp and the ground.

Links to any length. Male and female connectors on the ends lock sections together in a straight run.

Light and low. At about 6.8kg and 50mm high, one person can carry and lay several sections, and the gentle chequer plate slopes are easy to walk and wheel over.

  • Polyurethane ramp, PVC lid
  • 2 channels, one 32mm cable or hose in each
  • Sections link end to end
  • Temporary use, traffic at 5 mph or less

Where it is used

Use it at building site entrances and compounds, across car parks and yards, at outdoor events, festivals and markets, at film and TV locations, and for temporary power to cabins, lighting and pumps. Anywhere cables or hoses have to cross a route for a while, it protects them and makes the crossing easy to see.

Choosing the right ramp

Count your cables and measure the thickest one. This ramp takes two, each up to 32mm across. If you only have one cable on a walking route, a rubber cable protector is simpler. For more or thicker cables, or heavier traffic, choose a larger ramp.

Your situation Choose
Two cables or hoses up to 32mm, light traffic This one
One cable up to 40mm, foot traffic Rubber cable protector, 4m
Three larger cables or hoses 3 channel cable ramp, 970 x 590mm
Up to five cables 5 channel cable ramp, 960 x 590mm
Flat cables on an office or workshop floor PVC floor cable cover, 9m

How to lay it

  1. Choose firm, level ground, ideally concrete or tarmac. Do not let the ramp bridge over holes or soft ground, as this can make it fail.
  2. Lift the lids and lay one cable or hose in each channel.
  3. Close the lids, making sure no cable is trapped under the edge.
  4. Link further sections with the end connectors until the crossing is covered.
  5. Put signs in place to slow traffic to 5 mph.

Care

Wash off mud and grit with water. Check the lid hinges and connectors before each use. Replace a section if the lid cracks or will not close flat. Store sections flat and stacked when not in use.

Frequently asked questions

Can cars and vans drive over it?

Yes, at 5 mph or less, with signs in place. The specification sheet rates it at 2 tonnes per single wheel axle. It is not for forklift trucks with solid tyres or tracked vehicles.

Can I leave it down permanently?

No. It is made for temporary use. For a permanent crossing, cables should be routed in a proper duct.

How many sections do I need?

Measure the width of the crossing in metres and round up. A 3.5m wide gateway needs 4 sections.

Will a hose fit?

Yes, a round hose up to 32mm across fits one channel, in the same way as a cable.
