Description
A 4m rubber strip that holds a thick cable or hose safely across a walkway. This black rubber cable protector is for sites where one larger cable or small hose, up to 40mm across, has to cross a route people walk along: site paths, yard entrances, workshop floors and event walkways. It is 165mm wide and 55mm high, with stepped ridges down both slopes. You press the cable in through a slit along the top, into a large round channel in the middle, and the rubber closes back over it. It comes as one 4m length with no joints. It weighs about 20kg. The price is for one 4m length.
Why this protector works
Room for a thick cable. The 40mm round channel takes heavy power leads, armoured cable and small hoses that will not fit thinner covers.
The cable is held inside, not just covered. The top slit opens when you press the cable in, then closes behind it. The cable sits inside the rubber and is much less likely to work loose or be kicked out of place than under a loose cover.
Stepped slopes. The sides rise in small steps from a thin edge, which gives feet and trolley wheels more to grip than a smooth slope.
Solid rubber, one piece. It is made of SBR rubber. At about 20kg for 4m it is heavy enough to lie flat and stay put, and flexible enough to follow small bumps in the ground. One 4m run has no joints for the cable to show through.

Where it is used
Use it on construction site paths and compounds, across yard and depot walkways, at site cabin and welfare unit entrances, in workshops and plant rooms, and along event paths where a generator lead or water hose has to cross. Anywhere one thick cable or hose crosses a walking route, it keeps it out of the way of feet and reduces the trip hazard.

Sizes are approximate. Rubber can shrink slightly as it cures, so allow a millimetre or two either way.
Choosing the right size
Measure your cable or hose before you order. This protector takes one round cable or hose up to 40mm across. A thinner cable will fit, but it will sit loosely in the channel. For a cable up to 20mm, the 9m protector below is a closer fit and covers a longer run. For more than one cable, or for vehicles, choose from the table.

How to fit it
- It is supplied coiled. Unroll it and let it lie flat for a few hours, ideally somewhere warm, so it relaxes.
- Sweep the ground clean along the route.
- Lay the protector along the cable route.
- Starting at one end, open the slit with your fingers and press the cable or hose down into the centre channel. Work along the length.
- Check it lies flat all the way along, and that the ends do not lift.
Care
Wipe it clean with water and mild detergent. Check the slit and ends from time to time. Replace it if it splits or the cable starts to show. When you lift it, coil it loosely and store it flat, away from direct sun and heat.
Frequently asked questions
Can a car or forklift drive over it?
It is made for pedestrians and occasional light traffic. It is not suitable for forklift trucks with solid tyres and it is not highways approved. No load rating is published, so for regular vehicle traffic choose one of our vehicle cable protectors.
Will it take a hose?
Yes, a round hose up to 40mm across fits the centre channel, in the same way as a cable. A flat lay hose is better suited to one of our hose ramps.
Can I join two lengths?
There are no connectors on this line. You can lay two lengths end to end, butted tight, to cover a longer run.
Can I use it outdoors?
Yes, it is solid rubber and can be laid outdoors on paths and hard standing. It lies best on a firm, fairly flat surface.
