Description

A low chock for vehicles that aren't sitting where they should be. This chock was developed from fire crew feedback at road traffic incidents, where a damaged vehicle has to be chocked and there is little room under the bodywork. It stands only 140mm high, and its extra-large steel ring is easy to grip in thick gloves. It carries a 44-tonne maximum vehicle weight and weighs about 3.5kg. The price is for one chock.

Dimension and use drawing of the low height wheel chock: approximately 230mm long, 160mm wide, 140mm high, with large ring

Why this chock works

Only 140mm high. The restricted height lets it go under low bodywork, damaged sills and vehicles sitting low on their suspension, where a taller chock won't fit.

A ring made for gloves. The extra-large steel ring on a long eye-bolt sits well clear of the back of the chock, so you can get hold of it wearing fire or rigger gloves.

A stepped ramp. The thin toe slides under the tyre and square ribs climb the tread, giving the tyre edges to bear against.

Can be joined. We can supply chocks joined together with chain, on request. Call us for a price.

No test standard or slope rating is published for this line. If your specification needs a tested chock, call us before you order.

Where it is used

Use it with fire and rescue teams, recovery operators and highways crews, on cars and trucks at road traffic incidents, and anywhere else that bodywork leaves little room above the ground.

How to use it safely

  1. Follow your service or company procedure for making the vehicle safe.
  2. Push the toe under the tyre until the ramp is hard against the tread. The ring faces away from the wheel.
  3. On a slope, chock the downhill side first. Use a second chock on the other side of the tyre.
  4. Check the chock is on firm ground, not on debris or glass.
  5. Remove the chocks by the ring only when it is safe for the vehicle to move.

A chock backs up the parking brake where one is working. It does not replace stabilising a damaged vehicle.

Which chock do you need?

Your situation Choose
Very little room under the vehicle This 140mm chock
Routine HGV chocking at a low price 235 x 200 x 150mm cored chock
Trailers and caravans 174 x 90 x 94mm small chock

Care

Check each chock before use and replace it if the rubber is split or the eye-bolt is loose. Wipe off oil, fuel and grease, as these attack SBR rubber over time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price for one chock or a pair?

The price is for one chock. Set the quantity to 2 if you want one each side of a tyre.

Is it only for emergency services?

No. It was designed with them in mind, but it works for anyone who needs a low chock and a large grip.

Can you join them with a chain?

Yes, on request. Call 01744 520 110 for a price.

Is there a holder to keep it on the vehicle or a wall?

Yes. Our 230mm yellow steel holder and 245mm yellow steel holder both fit this chock. They are sold separately.
