Description
Every reversing HGV ends its manoeuvre against something. If that is your dock wall or leveller, the repair bill lands on you. This laminated dock bumper gives the trailer a block of rubber to meet instead. It measures 300 x 320 x 105mm overall and weighs 14.5kg. Layers of rubber conveyor stand on edge, clamped by two bolts between a flat steel plate and a steel foot, with two fixing holes in the foot. It suits a dock with little wall to spare beside the leveller, and the free fixings are in the price.

Why laminated conveyor belt works
The plies take the knock on edge. The block is a stack of rubber conveyor layers standing on edge, with those edges facing the vehicle. Conveyor belt is rubber reinforced with textile fabric, so the stack can take a lot of force without being damaged. It is a time tested way to protect a loading dock, and conveyor belt rubber is designed for millions of compression cycles.
One foot keeps it compact. A 65mm steel foot runs along one side of the 250mm block, and the other side has only a flat plate. That is why it needs just 320mm of wall across, where our twin-foot version needs 380mm.
You fix through steel, not rubber. Both fixing holes are in the foot, 250mm apart, clear of the rubber that the vehicle touches. With only two fixing points, this bumper depends on a sound wall and good anchors, so choose the twin-foot version if you want fixings on both sides.
It stands 105mm off the wall. That stand-off sets how far a trailer stops from your dock face, and it gives the rubber room to do its job before anything reaches the concrete or the leveller. Rubber is unaffected by the rain and frost of a UK yard, so it suits an open bay in all weathers.
Replacement is simple. A worn bumper comes off at its two fixings and a new one goes on in the same holes. That is a far smaller job than repairing a broken dock edge or a bent leveller frame.
Where it is used
Warehouse and distribution centre loading docks, supermarket and retail depots, food and cold store goods-in doors, manufacturing dispatch bays, parcel depots and farm stores. The compact size suits a single door, or a dock with limited wall either side of the leveller.

Is this the right bumper?
| Your situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| A single door, or only about 320mm of wall beside the leveller | This bumper |
| The same rubber block with a steel foot and fixings on both sides | 300 x 380 x 105mm twin-foot bumper |
| A wider contact area for trailers that park off line | 600 x 380 x 105mm laminated bumper |
| The widest laminated option | 900 x 400 x 105mm laminated bumper |
| A busy HGV bay where trailers rub up and down | 750 x 250 x 115mm bumper with a low friction face |
Measure before you order. You need 320 x 300mm of clear, sound surface. Check that the 105mm stand-off matches any other bumpers on the same dock, because the one that stands furthest out takes the contact first.
Fitting and care
Most docks use one bumper each side of the opening, at trailer bed height, approximately 1200 to 1300mm from the ground for standard UK trailers. Offer the bumper up, mark from its two holes and use the supplied M20 anchors with the washers. Have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock, because a bumper can only pass on what its fixing point can take. At 14.5kg, one person can lift it, though a second pair of hands makes drilling and fixing easier.
Check the rubber, bolts and fixings during routine dock inspections. On docks with 20 or more vehicle movements a day, we recommend inspecting every 6 months. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price for one bumper or a pair?
The price shown is for one bumper. Most doors use one each side, so add a quantity of 2 if you are protecting both sides of a bay.
Are fixings included?
Yes, free fixings are included: two M20 through-anchor studs 200 to 220mm long and two heavy washers 65mm across. Drill to suit the anchor and check it against your wall before fixing.
How is this different from the 300 x 380mm bumper?
The rubber block is the same size. This one has one steel foot with two fixing holes, so it needs 320mm of wall. The 300 x 380mm has a foot on each side with four fixing holes.
Is it solid rubber?
No, and that is the point of this design. It is built from layers of conveyor belt, which is rubber reinforced with textile fabric. The textile edges can look frayed as the bumper wears. That is normal for this type of bumper.
Is it strong enough for HGVs?
It is made for loading dock contact from reversing vehicles, but no load figure is published for it. It is a compact bumper, so on a very busy bay or where trailers park off line, a wider laminated bumper or a low friction face may suit you better. Call us if you are unsure.
