Description
Some docks need more rubber than a small block can give. If your trailers sit at different heights, or a small bumper keeps getting missed, this is the long option. It is a laminated dock bumper, 900mm long and 400mm across its steel flanges, built from 41kg of conveyor belt and steel. You fix it through six holes in the flanges, and the rubber takes the contact. It suits HGV loading bays, warehouse docks and goods-in doors where the dock face takes regular knocks.
Why this bumper works
The plies take the knock on edge. The face is a stack of conveyor belt layers standing on edge, with those edges facing the vehicle. Conveyor belt is rubber reinforced with textile, so each layer is tough in its own right, and the stack can take a lot of force without being damaged.
900mm of face covers more trailer heights. Fitted upright, the rubber runs 900mm from top to bottom. Trailers vary in bed height and ride lower as they are loaded, so a long face gives the vehicle more chance of meeting rubber and not concrete.
The steel flanges keep your fixings out of the way. A steel flange runs the full length of each side, 75mm wide, with three 18mm holes in it. Your fixings go through the steel beside the rubber, so they sit clear of the face the vehicle touches. Four bolts at 265mm centres clamp the plies together.
Replacement is simple. A worn bumper comes off at its six fixings and a new one goes on in the same holes. That is a far smaller job than repairing a broken dock edge or a bent leveller frame.

Where it is used
You will find long laminated bumpers on distribution centre loading docks, food and cold store goods-in bays, manufacturing dispatch doors and parcel depots. They suit bays that take a mix of vehicles, where the contact point changes from one delivery to the next. If trailers rub up and down hard during loading, a low friction face may last longer, so look at the options below.

Measure before you order. You need 900 x 400mm of clear, sound surface. Check the depth against any other bumpers on the same dock, because the one that stands furthest out takes the contact first.
Fitting and care
Most docks use one bumper each side of the opening, at trailer bed height. At 41kg, plan on two people or a lifting aid. Use the dimension drawing in the gallery to plan the position, then offer the bumper up and mark through the holes before you drill, because the distance between the two rows of holes is not dimensioned. The 18mm holes suit M16 fixings. Fix into sound concrete or structure, and have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock. A bumper can only pass on what its fixing point can take.
Check the rubber, bolts and fixings during your routine dock inspections, and replace the bumper once the plies are badly torn or worn. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price for one bumper or a pair?
The price shown is for one bumper. Most doors use one each side, so add a quantity of 2 if you are protecting both sides of a bay.
Are fixings included?
No. The flanges and clamping bolts are part of the bumper, but the anchors that hold it to your wall are not included, because the right ones depend on what you are fixing to. The holes are 18mm, which suits M16 fixings.
Why is it 400mm wide if the rubber is 250mm?
The 400mm is the whole bumper, including a 75mm steel flange each side. The rubber face the vehicle meets is 250mm of that. You may see this size of bumper described as 900 x 250mm, which measures the rubber only, so allow for the full 400mm on your wall.
Is it 95mm or 105mm deep?
It is sold as 105mm, and the dimension drawing shows 95mm from the wall to the rubber face. Conveyor plies are a cut material and the published dimensions are indicative. If your stand-off is critical, call us before you order.
Is it solid rubber?
No, and that is the point of this design. It is built from layers of conveyor belt, which is rubber reinforced with textile. The textile edges can look frayed as the bumper wears. That is normal for this type of bumper.

Installation Guide
Mount in pairs either side of the dock opening at trailer bed height (approx. 1200–1300mm from ground for standard UK trailers). Use M16 through-bolts into a suitable substrate. Inspect every 6 months on high-traffic docks (20+ movements/day).
