Description

Tight loading bays, short dock edges and exposed steelwork do not always have room for a long buffer. This small square dock bumper measures 330 x 305 x 100mm, so it fits where a 450mm or 600mm bumper will not. It is made from highly resilient TPX tyre compound and, unusually, it has four fixing holes, one near each corner. It is ideal for protecting steelwork around a loading dock, and it arrives as one moulded rubber block, with no back plate or front plate to assemble.

Why a small four-hole bumper works

Four fixings hold it square. Most longer bumpers fix through a line of holes. Here there is a fixing near every corner, so the block is held at all four sides of its face. That suits a short piece of wall or a steel post, where you want it to stay put under repeated knocks.

The fixings sit below the surface. Each hole is about 38mm wide for the first 50mm, then 20mm through to the wall. The fixing head sits down inside the rubber rather than on the face a vehicle touches.

The tyre compound takes the contact. TPX is the highly resilient material this bumper is made from, and it gives you a cost-effective way to protect your building from damage. The rubber takes the knock in place of your steelwork or concrete, and a damaged bumper is far simpler to replace than a bent frame or a broken dock edge.

The shape stays out of the way. The face sits about 20mm in from the back on each side, so the block is widest against the wall and tapers towards the vehicle.

No compression or load figure is published for this line. If your specification needs one, call us before you order.

Where it is used

Use it on steel posts and frames around a loading dock, beside dock levellers, at the ends of short dock walls and at narrow goods-in doors. It also suits older bays where a larger bumper would overlap a door frame or a drain. On a busy HGV bay where trailers move up and down during loading, look at a plated bumper instead, as covered below.

Measure the space before you order. You need 330 x 305mm of clear, sound surface, and the 100mm stand-off sets how far a vehicle stops from the wall. If other bumpers on the same dock stand further out, this one may not be touched first.

Fitting and care

Mark out from the drawing above, then offer the bumper up and check the holes against it before you drill. Fix into sound concrete or structure, and have a competent installer confirm that the wall, steelwork and anchors suit the loads at your dock. A bumper can only pass on what its fixing point can take. At 8.5kg, one person can lift it into place.

Check the rubber and fixings during your routine dock inspections, and replace the bumper once it is torn or worn back towards the fixing heads. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price for one bumper or a pair?

The price shown is for one bumper. Most doors with a leveller use one each side, so add a quantity of 2 if you are protecting both sides of a bay.

Are fixings included?

No, because the right anchor depends on what you are fixing to. You need four fixings to suit your wall or steelwork. The holes are 20mm through, opening to about 38mm, and take an M16 washer of 37mm OD. Call us if you would like to talk through what you need before you order.

Does it have a back plate or front plate?

No. There is no back or front plate for this item. It is a single rubber block that fixes directly to your wall or steelwork through its four holes.

Is it strong enough for HGVs?

It is a small bumper and no load figure is published for it. It is ideal for protecting steelwork around a dock. For the main contact point on a busy HGV bay, a longer or plated bumper is usually the better match, so call us if you are unsure.
