Description

Reversing HGVs chip a bare concrete dock a little more every week, and the trailer takes the same knock. This solid rubber dock bumper gives them something to stop against instead. It measures 450 x 250 x 100mm, weighs 11kg and bolts to your dock face through two recessed holes, with the fixings included in the price. It is our best-selling dock bumper, and most orders are for two or more, because most doors take one on each side. If you run a warehouse, distribution yard or goods-in bay and want a straightforward bumper that goes straight on the wall, start here.

Why this bumper works

Fixings in the price. You do not need to source anchors separately before the job can start. If your wall needs a particular type of fixing, call us before you order.

The bolts sit below the surface. Each hole is 75mm wide for the first 50mm, then 28mm through to the wall. The bolt head and washer sit down inside the recess, with rubber standing in front of them, rather than on the face a trailer touches.

Two fixings, simple to mark out. The holes run in one line, 250mm apart and 100mm in from each end. There are no plates to assemble, so it is one block to lift up, mark out and bolt on. When it has worn, undo two fixings and fit a new one in the same holes.

Stand-off you can adjust. On its own the block stands 100mm off the wall. Rubber packers behind it bring that out to 110, 115, 120 or 150mm, so you can line it up with other bumpers on the dock while the rubber can still compress.

Room to upgrade. Add the galvanised front plate and the steel takes the rubbing while the bumper behind it compresses to absorb the impact, which can greatly extend its life on a busy door.

No compression or load figure is published for this line. If your specification needs one, call us before you order.

Where it is used

Use it on concrete dock faces beside dock levellers, on raised loading platforms at distribution centres, at goods-in doors in factories and on walls that reversing vehicles keep catching. Fit one each side of a door where trailers back in square. Orders of four or more are common.

Parts that fit this bumper

Choose these from the Size menu at the top of the page. You can order them with a bumper, or on their own to adjust or repair a bumper you already have.

Part Size Weight What it does
10mm rubber packer 450 x 250 x 10mm 1.3kg Small projection adjustment, without losing compression
15mm rubber packer 450 x 250 x 15mm 2.4kg More projection. Available plain or pre-drilled
20mm rubber packer 450 x 250 x 20mm 3kg More projection again. Pre-drilled version available
50mm rubber packer 450 x 250 x 50mm 6kg The thickest option, for maximum spacing
Galvanised front plate 460 x 255 x 65mm 16.5kg 12mm steel with side cheeks, for extra impact resistance and service life
Spring back plate 720 x 250 x 66mm 35.5kg Lets the bumper move with the trailer as it is loaded, then return after unloading

Want a plain flat plate instead of a spring one? The 450 x 250 x 15mm back plate is sold separately. Bumpers and bolts fixed to a back plate are quicker to replace than those fixed straight into concrete.

Is this the right bumper?

Your situation Choose
A standard dock wall and trailers that back in square This 450 x 250 x 100mm bumper
You want more height for the trailer to find 600 x 250 x 108mm bumper
Trailer heights that vary widely across your fleet 750 x 250 x 100mm bumper
You need more stand-off from the wall 448 x 250 x 153mm extended bumper
A busy HGV bay where trailers rub up and down 465 x 275 x 110mm sliding bumper
The top edge of a loading ramp L shaped 450 x 450 x 100mm bumper

Measure before you order. You need 450 x 250mm of clear, sound surface, in a position that lines up with the part of the trailer that reaches the dock first.

Fitting and care

Mark out from the dimension drawing in the gallery, then offer the bumper up and check the holes before you drill. On sound concrete, a bumper this size is normally fixed with two M20 x 220mm through anchor studs and heavy washers. Allow longer fixings if you fit a thick packer behind it. Have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock, because a bumper can only pass on what its fixing point can take.

Check the rubber and fixings during routine dock inspections, and replace the bumper once it is torn or worn back towards the bolt heads. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price for one bumper or a pair?

The price shown is for one bumper. Most doors use one each side, so set the quantity to 2 for each door you are protecting.

Are fixings included?

Yes, fixings are included with the bumper. If your wall needs a particular type of anchor, call us before you order. The holes are 28mm through, opening to 75mm wide for the bolt head and washer.

Do I need a back plate or front plate?

No. The bumper fixes directly to a sound wall through its two holes. A front plate adds service life on a busy door, and a back plate makes later replacement quicker. Both are optional.

Which way up does it fit?

It is normally fitted upright, with the 450mm length running from top to bottom and the two holes in a vertical line. That gives trailers at different heights the most rubber to meet.

Can I buy just the packers or plates?

Yes. Pick the part you need from the Size menu. Check the size against your existing bumper first, or call us if you are not sure it will fit.

Is it strong enough for HGVs?

It is made for loading docks where heavy goods vehicles reverse in, and no load figure is published for it. For very heavy use or hard vertical rubbing, a plated or low friction bumper is often the better match, so call us if you are unsure.
