Description

A scorched, holed or missing welding strip lets arc light straight out of the bay and onto the walkway. These dark green or red welding PVC strips are made to EN 1598 / ISO 25980 for welding curtains and screens, cut to the length you choose and drilled with the hanging holes for an aluminium twin track fixing plate. Undo the nuts, swap the worn strip for a new one, clamp the plate back down, and the bay is screened again without taking the curtain down. Choose dark green in 200mm x 2mm or 300mm x 3mm, or red in 200mm x 2mm, 300mm x 2mm or 300mm x 3mm, from 1 metre up to 3 or 5 metres long in 100mm steps. The price shown is per strip and includes VAT.

Twin track welding strip size guide: 200mm 2 bolts to 3m, 300mm 3 bolts to 5m, dark green or red

Is my rail twin track?

A twin track rail is a slim aluminium extrusion with two parallel grooves along its face, fixed above the opening on L-shaped brackets. Each strip is clamped under its own flat aluminium fixing plate, held by bolts that slide in the grooves. If your welding strips hang from hooks, see our hook-on welding strips, which come with the plate fitted.

Which size do I need?

Match the strips already on your rail. Measure the width of an old strip, or count the bolts across its fixing plate: on our strips, 200mm strips take 2 bolts and 300mm strips take 3. Check the thickness against a ruler or with a 2mm or 3mm sample. When you choose a colour and size, the photo changes to show that strip. Not sure? Send a photo to sales@industrialsuppliesco.co.uk or call 01744 520 110 and we will check before you order.

Strip size Colours Recommended up to Price per strip
200mm x 2mm Dark green or red 3m high £9.90 (1m) to £29.90 (3m)
300mm x 2mm Red 5m high £14.90 (1m) to £74.90 (5m)
300mm x 3mm Dark green or red 5m high £22.90 (1m) to £111.90 (5m)

Why welding grade strip

Made for welding screens. The PVC is made to EN 1598 / ISO 25980, the standard for transparent welding curtains, strips and screens. Its tint and anti-UV formula cut down the harmful ultraviolet and glare from the arc, so people outside the bay are screened while they can still see someone is working inside.

Stands up to sparks and spatter. The strips are a barrier to spatter and self-extinguish if hit by sparks.

Walk straight through. The strips part for people, trolleys and work pieces and close behind them, so the bay stays screened without a door to open.

Dark green or red?

Match the colour already on your curtain, so the screen looks even and gives the same view through it. On a new curtain, dark green is the darker of the two tints, and red is lighter and easier to see through. Both are welding grade PVC to the same standard.

Choosing the length

Measure an old strip end to end. If it is damaged or stretched, measure from the top edge under the fixing plate to just above the floor. Lengths go up in 100mm steps. For an exact length, choose the next size up, then trim the bottom of the strip with a sharp knife against a straight edge. For a length outside this range, call us for a quote.

Fitting

Loosen the nuts on the fixing plate holding the worn strip, slide the strip off the bolts and lift the plate away. Push the holes in the new strip over the bolts, put the plate back over the top edge, and tighten the nuts evenly so the strip is clamped flat. Check it overlaps the strips either side as before, with no gaps. Strips are delivered rolled, so a slight curl at the bottom is normal and drops out in time. Unrolling them flat overnight before fitting helps. On a high rail, work from a safe platform such as a podium step, never from the forks of a truck. Make sure no one is welding in the bay while you work on the curtain.

Safety

Check welding curtains regularly and replace any strip that is holed, torn, heavily scorched or missing, because gaps let arc light through. The curtain screens people outside the bay. It is not a welding filter: never watch an arc through the strips, and the welder still needs their own helmet, gloves and clothing.

Frequently asked questions

Are the fixing plates included?

No. The strips come cut and drilled, and you re-use the plate, nuts and bolts from the strip you are replacing. If you need new plates, call 01744 520 110.

Can I mix dark green and red?

They clamp onto the same rail if the width matches, but the screen will look uneven and the view through will change from strip to strip. We recommend matching your existing colour.

How often should welding strips be replaced?

PVC strip is a consumable. Strips close to the work wear fastest from spatter and heat, so check them often and replace any that are holed or badly marked. Strips further from the arc last much longer.

Do you have a free-standing screen?

Yes. For welding that moves around the workshop, see our mobile welding screens, with EN 1598 PVC on a free-standing frame.

Why is there a minimum order?

Strips are cut and drilled to order, so the minimum order is 10 strips. If you need fewer, call 01744 520 110.
