Description

When a trailer rises and sinks during loading, a plain rubber face grips it and drags. This 450 x 250 x 115mm dock bumper puts a thick yellow UHMWPE plate on the contact face, so the back of the trailer can slide along it, while the SBR rubber block behind takes the impact. It has much the same capability as a standard 450mm rubber bumper, with a low friction face added. Fix one each side of the dock leveller to protect your wall and the vehicle.

Technical drawing of the low friction dock bumper 450 x 250 x 115mm with side, end and face views, hole positions and the yellow plate lifted off the rubber block

Why a low friction face works

The trailer slides instead of grabbing. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene has a low coefficient of friction. The plate is 35mm thick, which gives it plenty of material to wear through.

Rubber still takes the knock. Behind the plate is a 100mm deep rubber block, in the same class as our standard 450mm bumpers. The plate sits 20mm into the rubber and stands 15mm proud of it, which is where the 115mm overall depth comes from.

The fixings sit below the surface. Each hole is 70mm wide for the first 80mm from the face, then 27mm through to the wall. The fixing head sits down inside the bumper, not on the face the trailer touches.

Easy for a driver to see. The yellow plate stands out against a grey dock wall, which helps when lining up in the mirrors.

Built as an assembly. The plate and the rubber block are separate parts, so if one is damaged it can be replaced without the other. Call us for a replacement part.

No load rating is published for this assembly. If your specification needs one, call us before you order.

Where it is used

Use it on the loading bays of distribution centres, parcel depots, factory despatch bays and merchant yards, wherever trailers sit against the bumpers while they are loaded and rise and sink as the weight changes.

Before you order, measure your existing stand-off and check it against your dock leveller. If other bumpers on the same dock stand further out, this one may not be touched first.

Fitting and care

Mark out from the drawing above, then offer the bumper up and check the holes against it before you drill. Fix through both holes into sound concrete or structure, and have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock. A bumper can only pass on what its fixing point can take.

Check the plate, rubber and fixings during your routine dock inspections, and replace a part once it is torn or worn back towards the fixing heads. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price for one bumper or a pair?

The price shown is for one bumper. Most doors with a leveller use one each side, so add a quantity of 2 if you are protecting both sides of a bay.

Are fixings included?

No, because the right anchor depends on what you are fixing to. You need two fixings, mounted with standard bolts and anchors to suit your dock surface. The holes are 27mm through and open out to 70mm, so a 65mm OD washer fits the recess. Call us if you would like to talk through what you need.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, this bumper is designed for outdoor loading bays. The rubber has a service temperature of -15°C to 70°C.

What is the main benefit of a rubber dock bumper?

It protects both the dock and the vehicle, reducing damage during loading and unloading. The yellow plate on this one also lets the trailer slide along the face.

Can I replace the plate on its own?

Yes. The plate and the rubber block are separate parts. Call 01744 520 110 or email us for a replacement.
