Description
When your bay needs a bumper that stands further off the wall, this one gives you 160mm. It has a large impact area with no holes in the UHMWPE face for the back of the truck to snag on, and the 50mm thick face can slide freely up and down in its galvanised steel cradle. Behind the face, two layers of rubber take the impact. Fix one each side of the dock leveller to protect your dock and the back of the trailer.
Why it works
The face moves with the trailer. A trailer does not stay still at the dock. It sinks and rises on its suspension each time a forklift drives on and off. The faceplate slides within the steel cradle and adjusts with the movement of the vehicle, so much less of that movement becomes scraping.
Nothing on the face to catch. There are no bolt holes in the face, which leaves no edge for a trailer's frame to snag on. UHMWPE has a very low coefficient of friction, and it is known for its high impact resistance and durability. The yellow colour also gives a driver a clear reference point when reversing.
Rubber behind, steel around. Two rubber layers sit behind the face, and the galvanised steel cradle holds them all together and carries the load back into the dock wall through its fixings.
Replace the wearing part, not the whole unit. The yellow front can be changed if it shows signs of wear or damage, while the back plate stays bolted to the wall, with no new holes to drill.

Where it is used
This type of bumper is fitted at distribution centres, manufacturing plants and goods-in bays taking articulated trailers, where the dock needs more stand-off than a standard bumper gives. It usually goes on the dock face either side of a dock leveller, and most bays need two.

Before you order, measure your existing stand-off and check it against your dock leveller. A deeper bumper keeps the trailer further from the dock, so check that the leveller lip still reaches the trailer bed. Allow up to 470 x 280mm of flat, sound wall.
Fitting and care
The fixing holes are in the back plate, so mark out from the drawing above, then offer the back plate up and check the holes against it before you drill. Fit to sound concrete using four M16 through-anchor studs and two washers. Set the height so the trailer's rear frame meets the face across its travel, and have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock. At 37.5kg this is a two-person lift.
Check the face and fixings during routine bay inspections. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine docking contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.

How many do I need per loading bay?
Most bays use two, one either side of the leveller. The price shown is for one bumper, so add a quantity of 2 for a standard bay.
Can I mount it above the dock?
The two 26mm holes at the top of the back plate allow for M24 bolts to fix to an above dock angle bracket, if your bay requires one. The bracket is not part of this listing, so call us for advice.
