Description
Solid colour strips do a job clear strips cannot: black blocks the view completely, and red marks out a doorway so people can see where it starts and ends. These opaque PVC strips are 400mm x 4mm, cut to the length you choose and punched along the top edge to bolt straight into the hinges on a heavy duty swivel hinge rail set for 60% or 100% overlap. Unbolt the worn strip, bolt the new one in, and the curtain is back to full strength without taking the rail down. Choose black or red, from 1 metre up to 9 metres (60%) or 10 metres (100%) long. The price shown is per strip and includes VAT.
Black or red?
Black. Fully opaque, for screening and blackout: hiding processes, stock or work areas from view, and doorways where privacy matters.
Red. Fully opaque, for warning and marking. A red strip at each edge of a clear curtain shows people where the doorway starts and ends, and a run of red strips marks a restricted area.
Which overlap is my rail?
Swivel hinge rails are set up for one strip width and one overlap, so the holes in a new strip have to match. Measure from the centre of one swivel hinge to the centre of the next: about 280mm means 60% overlap and about 200mm means 100% overlap. Choosing the length
Measure an old strip end to end. If it is damaged or stretched, measure from the bolt holes in the hinge to just above the floor. Lengths go up in 200mm steps. For an exact length, choose the next size up, then trim the bottom of the strip with a sharp knife against a straight edge. For a length outside this range, call us for a quote.

Fitting and safety
Undo the nuts on the hinge holding the worn strip and lift it away. Line up the punched holes in the new strip with the hinge plates, push the bolts through, and tighten the nuts and washers. Check it overlaps the strips either side as before. Strips are delivered rolled, so a slight curl at the bottom is normal and drops out in time. Unrolling them flat overnight before fitting helps. On a high rail, work from a safe platform such as a scissor lift or tower, never from the forks of a truck.
Opaque strips hide what is on the other side. A full curtain of black or red strips means people cannot see who is coming the other way. Keep traffic through opaque curtains to walking speed and careful trolley use, and do not use a fully opaque curtain on a route shared with forklifts. For vehicle doorways, use clear strips or ribbed strips, with red strips only at the edges.
Frequently asked questions
Can I mix red strips into a clear curtain?
Yes, if they are the same width and punched for the same overlap, they bolt into the same hinges. A red strip at each edge of a clear curtain shows people where the doorway is.
Can I see through these strips?
No. Both colours are opaque. For a see-through curtain, choose our 400mm clear strips for 60% overlap or 400mm clear strips for 100% overlap.
Are bolts included?
No. The strip comes punched and ready to fit, and you re-use the nuts and bolts from the strip you are replacing.
Do you do white?
Not in this swivel hinge range, which is black or red. Call 01744 520 110 and we will check what we can supply.
Can I use them in a freezer?
No. They are recommended for 0°C to +40°C. For freezer doors, call us about polar grade strips.
Why is there a minimum order?
Strips are cut and punched to order, so the minimum order is 10 strips. If you need fewer, call 01744 520 110.
