Description
Loading bay strips take the hardest life of any curtain. Forklifts, pallets and the weather scuff, stretch and cloud them, and once a strip is split or too cloudy to see through, drivers stop trusting the doorway. These clear PVC strips are 400mm wide, cut to the length you choose and punched along the top edge to bolt straight into the swivel hinges on a heavy duty rail set for 60% overlap. Unbolt the worn strip, bolt the new one in, and the curtain is back to full strength without taking the rail down. Choose 3mm or 4mm thick, from 1000mm up to 9000mm long.

Which strip do I need?
Match the strips already on your rail. These fit swivel hinge rails set for 400mm strips at 60% overlap, the hanging system on our heavy duty loading bay strip curtain. Measure the width of an old strip and check the thickness, or call us and we will help.
| Strip | Duty | Lengths |
|---|---|---|
| 400mm x 3mm | Medium duty, for busy doors with lighter traffic | 1000mm to 9000mm |
| 400mm x 4mm | Heavy duty, for forklift and HGV loading bays. The strip used on our loading bay curtain | 1000mm to 9000mm |
Choosing the length
Measure an old strip end to end. If it is damaged or stretched, measure from the bolt holes in the hinge to just above the floor. Lengths run in 100mm steps. If you fall between two lengths, go up one: the bottom of the strip trims with a sharp knife against a straight edge. Strips are recommended for openings up to 9m high.

Fitting
Undo the nuts on the hinge holding the worn strip and lift it away. Line up the punched holes in the new strip with the hinge plate, push the bolts through, and tighten the nuts and washers. Check it overlaps the strips either side as before. Strips travel rolled, so a slight curl at the bottom is normal and drops out in time, more slowly in the cold. Unrolling them flat overnight before fitting helps. On a high rail, work from a safe platform, never from the forks of a truck.
Frequently asked questions
Will these fit my rail?
They fit swivel hinge rails, the round tube rail with a hinge clamp for every strip, set for 400mm strips at 60% overlap. If your strips are a different width, or the rail is set for a different overlap, the holes will not line up. Call 01744 520 110 with a photo of your rail and we will check. For rails set for 300mm strips at 56% or 80% overlap, choose our 300mm swivel hinge strips. If your hinges are only about 200mm apart, your rail is set for 100% overlap: choose our 400mm 100% overlap strips.
Do you have black or red strips for this rail?
Yes. Our 400mm black or red swivel hinge strips come punched for 60% overlap rails like this one, and bolt into the same hinges. Use red at the edges of a clear curtain to mark the doorway.
Are bolts included?
No. The strip comes punched and ready to fit, and you re-use the nuts and bolts from the strip you are replacing.
3mm or 4mm?
For forklift and HGV loading bays, choose 4mm: it hangs straighter in the wind and wears longer. 3mm suits busy doors with lighter traffic, such as pallet trucks and pedestrians.
How often should loading bay strips be replaced?
PVC strip is a consumable. Busy forklift doors may need new strips every year, while quieter doors last much longer. Replace any strip that is split, stretched or too cloudy to see through. Strips fitted inside the opening, out of the weather, keep their clarity longer.
Can I use them in a freezer?
No. Standard clear PVC is recommended for 0°C to +40°C and stiffens below freezing. For freezer doors, call us about polar grade strips.
Why is there a minimum order?
Strips are cut and punched to order, so we supply a minimum of 10 per order. Need fewer, or a length outside this range? Call 01744 520 110.
