Spiked shoes for walking on wet resin, screed and floor coatings

Once a poured resin or screed is down, you still have to get onto it: to spread it, work a metallic pattern, fix a missed patch or roll out air. Step on it in ordinary boots and you leave a footprint that cures in. These spiked overshoes strap over your own boots and stand you on 35mm spikes, so the spikes pierce the wet layer and the finish closes back behind you.

Flooring contractors and installers use them on metallic epoxy floors, self levelling screeds and poured resin systems, from showrooms and bars to garages and homes. One pair, one size fits all.

Why it works

Spikes, not soles, touch the floor

Each overshoe carries a flat sole on 35mm spikes. Your weight goes down through the spikes, which leave small holes that flow closed in a self-levelling material, instead of a whole boot print that does not.

They bleed air as you walk

The spikes work like a spiked roller. Walking the floor helps release air trapped in the wet layer, which would otherwise rise and leave pinholes in the finish.

One size fits every pair of boots on site

Two adjustable nylon straps hold each overshoe over the boot you are wearing, so one pair can be passed between installers with different shoe sizes.

Where it's used

Use them while pouring and working the metallic epoxy design coat, whose instructions say to wear spiked shoes to walk on wet resin, and on self levelling screeds and other freshly poured floor surfaces. Do not wear them for the second coat of the metallic top coat: the floor is still fresh at that stage and the spikes can leave permanent dents.

Choosing the right option

There is one size and one spike length, so the choice is how many pairs. One pair does for one person on the floor. On a metallic floor, the person pouring and spreading resin and the person working the pattern both need to stand on the wet surface, so two installers means two pairs.

The 35mm spike is matched to coatings and screeds. If your layer is unusually thick, check its instructions for the spike length they call for. Pair them with our epoxy resin roller sleeves and 15 litre paint scuttle to have the whole application kit ready before you mix.

Installation, use and care

Put them on at the edge of the floor, on a clean, dry surface, before you step onto the coating. Stand the boot on the sole, pull both straps snug over the foot and check the overshoe does not twist when you lift your heel. Walk with short, flat steps and lift each foot straight up rather than dragging it. Step off onto a protected area and wipe or scrape resin from the spikes before it cures, or soak them as the coating's clean-up instructions say. Check the spikes are straight and tight before each job.

Frequently asked questions

Will they leave marks in the floor?

Each spike leaves a small hole, which closes up in a self-levelling material while it is still wet. Do not wear them on a coating that is starting to set, or for a second top coat, where marks can stay.

Do they fit over safety boots?

They are one size fits all and strap over your own footwear with two adjustable straps. Very large boots should be tried on before you go onto a wet floor.

Do I need them for the base coat?

The base coat is rolled out like a paint, so you work from the dry side. The spiked shoes are for the design coat, when you need to walk on the poured resin.
