Pig Silhouette 230 x 195mm, 5mm Mild Steel Gate and Railing Panel

A pig standing under a tree, cut from 5mm mild steel plate, with a straight edge on one side to weld to a gate bar, post or railing. It measures about 230mm wide and 195mm high and weighs about 0.85 kg. The open spaces between the pig, the branch and the leaves let the light through, so it reads clearly from the path or the lane. Why choose this panel

5mm plate, not thin sheet. At 5mm thick it is stiff enough to weld into a gate that is opened every day without bending, and thick enough to weld without blowing through.

Made to be fixed. The straight edge sits flat against a gate bar or the face of a post, so you get a long, neat weld instead of tacking onto curves.

The same on both sides. It is a flat cut plate, so it looks right from the house and from the lane. Turn it over and the pig faces the other way.

A clear outline. The pig, the arching branch and two clumps of leaves are cut cleanly with open gaps, so the shape still reads from a distance once painted black.

Fitting and finishing

Clean the edge and the bar or post back to bright metal, hold the panel in place with a clamp and weld along the straight edge. If it sits inside a gate frame, add a small tack where the pig's feet or the leaves touch the rails. If you cannot weld, drill two holes through the straight edge and bolt it on.

Raw steel will rust outdoors, so finish it before it goes up. Degrease, then prime with a zinc-rich primer and top coat with a metal paint, or have it hot-dip galvanised or powder coated with the rest of the gate.
