Description
A trailer reversing slightly off line rarely hits the neat patch of wall where a rectangular buffer sits. It catches the top edge of the dock instead. This L-shape rubber dock bumper is made for that spot. It is a single 450 x 450 x 100mm block of fibre-filled TPX tyre compound, weighing 14kg and fixed at three points, so one part protects along the dock edge and down the face at the same time. It suits facilities managers, loading bay engineers and contractors looking after busy HGV bays, where a chipped dock edge soon turns into a concrete repair.
Why this L-shape dock bumper works
A compound picked for toughness. Fibre-filled tyre compound is an extremely tough grade of rubber. Look at it first where bumpers take regular contact from heavy vehicles rather than an occasional touch.
Protection in two directions. Each arm is 200mm wide and the bumper spans 450mm both ways. Set at the top of a dock wall, one arm follows the edge and the other drops down the face, so the area a flat buffer leaves bare is covered by the same block.
Fixings spread across the shape. One hole sits in the angle and one towards the end of each arm, on 250mm centres. The load is shared across both arms rather than resting on a single line of bolts.
Bolt heads kept out of the way. Each 28mm through hole opens into a 70mm recess, 50mm deep, so a bolt head and washer sit below the working face. The 100mm depth holds the trailer off the wall, and the sides taper by 12mm.
What to expect. No compression or load rating is published for this line. No back plate or front plate is available, so a worn bumper is replaced as a whole unit.
- Fibre-filled TPX tyre compound
- Covers the dock edge and the dock face in one block
- Three recessed fixing holes on 250mm centres
- Bolts through to concrete or steel dock structure
Where it is used
You will find this type of bumper on raised concrete docks at distribution centres, on steel dock structures in factories, and beside dock levellers at goods-in doors. It also makes a sensible repair where an edge has started to break up and you want to stop further strikes reaching it. On longer docks it works alongside rectangular bumpers, which take the main contact lower down the wall.

Choosing the right dock bumper
Start with where the strikes land and how often. Then measure the stand-off of any bumpers already fitted, because a new one standing further out than its neighbours takes the first hit from every trailer.
| Your dock | Best match |
|---|---|
| Busy bay with regular strikes at the top edge | This tyre compound L-shape bumper |
| Same size in SBR rubber, with free fixings | L shaped SBR bumper, 450 x 450 x 100mm |
| You want a front plate option on an L-shape | L shaped bumper, 440 x 440 x 95mm |
| The main dock face needs covering, not the edge | 750 x 250 x 100mm rubber bumper |
| Fixed rubber tears as the trailer rises and sinks | 760 x 270 x 110mm sliding bumper |
Fitting and care
Use the marking-out guide in the gallery to set out the three holes, and check that each one lands on sound structure and clears the leveller, door guides and pipework. At 14kg one person can carry it, though a second pair of hands helps when holding it up to mark and bolt. Have a competent installer confirm that the wall and bolts suit the loads at your dock. Check the rubber and bolts at routine inspections, and replace the bumper if it splits or works loose. A bumper is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
How many do I need per loading door?
Usually two, mounted in a pair either side of the dock opening. The price is for one bumper, so set the quantity to 2 for a typical door. A quarter turn takes the same part from one side of the door to the other, because the arms and holes are symmetrical.
Are bolts included?
Fixings are not listed as part of this item, so allow for M16 or M20 through-bolts and suitable washers. The right bolt depends on your wall, so ask your installer to choose them. The 70mm recess and 28mm hole show what will fit.
Why choose tyre compound over standard rubber?
Choose it where toughness matters most, such as a bay taking regular HGV contact. If your dock sees lighter use, the SBR version of this size linked above costs less. No load rating is published for either, so the choice comes down to how hard the bay works.
Can I fit a front plate later?
No. Neither a back plate nor a front plate is available for this bumper. It bolts straight to the structure and is replaced as one piece when worn. If you want a replaceable face, look at our sliding dock bumpers.
What are the exact hole positions?
One hole sits in the angle, 100mm in from both outer edges. The other two are 250mm along each arm from that hole, which puts them 100mm from the arm ends. The dimension drawing and marking-out guide in the gallery show the full layout.

Product details
This L-shape rubber dock bumper is engineered for heavy-duty loading dock environments, protecting dock walls, levellers, and vehicle bodywork from the repeated impact of reversing HGVs, vans, and trailers. Built from rubber in an L-profile, it delivers outstanding energy absorption, long service life, and all-weather performance in UK loading bay conditions.
Key Features
- Heavy Impact Absorption — Absorbs and dissipates kinetic energy from reversing vehicles, protecting your dock structure and vehicles
- Long Service Life — rubber L-profile construction is designed for millions of compression cycles without cracking or permanent deformation
- All-Weather Performance — Rubber is unaffected by rain, frost, UV, and temperature extremes common in UK dock environments
- Low Maintenance — No moving parts. Simply bolt to the wall and leave
- Protects Building & Vehicles — Prevents structural damage to dock walls and costly chassis/bodywork damage to delivery vehicles
- Easy Installation — Standard bolt-through fixing to concrete or steel dock structure
L-Profile Corner Protection
The L-shape profile provides protection on two planes simultaneously — ideal for dock corners, door frames, and column edges that are vulnerable to reversing vehicle strikes. The angled face guides vehicles and deflects impact away from vulnerable building structures.
Applications
- Warehouse and distribution centre loading docks
- Supermarket, retail depot and cold storage bays
- Food processing and manufacturing facilities
- Courier and parcel depot loading areas
- Agricultural buildings and farm storage
Installation Guide
Mount in pairs either side of the dock opening at trailer bed height (approx. 1200–1300mm from ground for standard UK trailers). Use M16 or M20 through-bolts into a suitable substrate. Inspect every 6 months on high-traffic docks (20+ movements/day).
