Rubber Hose Ramp for 2.5 Inch Lay-Flat Hose, 2 Channel - 850 x 300 x 84 mm

A traditional moulded rubber hose ramp for 2.5 inch lay-flat hose, rated to 12 tonnes per vehicle axle. This is the classic two channel ramp made for fire service 2.5 inch (65mm) lay-flat hose, and it has been in use for decades because it is simple and hard wearing. Two open topped channels run across the ramp, so you drop the hose in from above without threading it through. Each channel is about 85mm wide at the base, opening to about 92mm at the top, and 70mm deep. The ramp is 850mm long, 300mm wide and 84mm high, weighs about 14kg and comes with two connectors fitted so ramps link side by side. The price is for one ramp.

Why this ramp works

Open channels, quick to lay. There is no lid to lift and nothing to thread. Lay the hose flat, set the ramp over it with the hose in a channel, and the job is done. Picking the ramps up afterwards is just as quick.

Solid rubber that stays put. The ramp is moulded from SBR (styrene-butadiene) rubber. At 14kg it sits heavy on the ground, grips tarmac and concrete, and does not slide about when tyres roll over it.

Rated for road vehicles. The supplier rates it at 12 tonnes per vehicle axle, so cars, vans, fire appliances and lorries can cross slowly without crushing the hose.

Easy to see. Each sloping face has three yellow visibility strips set into slots, so drivers and people on foot can see the ramp in poor light.

Links side by side. Two rubber dog bone connectors are fitted on one long edge and push into the next ramp, so you can build a crossing as wide as the vehicle track. Spare connectors are sold separately.

Where it is used

Fire and rescue crews use it to protect charged lay-flat hose where it crosses a road at an incident or training ground. It is also used for temporary pumping, dewatering and wash-down hoses across depot yards and site entrances, for water and fuel transfer hoses at events, and for cables up to about 70mm across on building sites and in car parks.

Sizes are approximate. Rubber can shrink slightly as it cures, so allow a few millimetres either way.

Choosing the right ramp

Measure your hose or cable across its widest point when it is in use. A charged lay-flat hose goes round and gets bigger than it looks when flat. This ramp suits hose up to about 70mm across. For larger hose, or for a ramp with handles, pick one of these.

How to lay it

1. Lay the hose flat across firm, level ground. Do not let the ramp bridge holes or soft ground.
2. Set a ramp over the hose so the hose sits in one channel. A second hose goes in the other channel.
3. Push the next ramp onto the connectors so the run covers the full width of the vehicle track.
4. Charge the hose and check it sits at or below the top of the channel before traffic crosses.
5. Put signs or a banksman in place so vehicles cross slowly.

Care

Hose off mud and grit after use. Check the connectors and yellow strips, and replace a lost connector before the next job. At 14kg each, lift with care and store the ramps flat and stacked.
