Description
Freezer-grade clear PVC strip, cut to the length you need. Standard clear PVC stiffens and cracks in the cold. This polar grade PVC stays flexible down to -24°C, so the strips keep closing behind people, trolleys and pallets in freezers and cold stores. They are plain lengths with square cut ends and no plate, holes or fixings. Use them to repair a freezer curtain that clamps or bolts its strips in place, or to make up a new curtain on a rail you already have. Choose from 5 sizes, 100mm x 2mm up to 300mm x 3mm, in lengths from 1000mm to 5000mm.
Which strip do I need?
To repair a curtain, match the width and thickness of the strips already on it. Measure the width with a tape and compare the thickness with a 2mm or 3mm sample, or call us and we will help.

Choosing the length
Measure an old strip end to end. For a new curtain, measure the drop from your fixing to just above the floor and add whatever your fixing needs to grip. Lengths run from 1000mm to 5000mm in 200mm steps. If you fall between two lengths, go up one: the PVC trims cleanly with a sharp knife against a straight edge. Trim it at room temperature, before it goes into the cold.
Why polar grade in a freezer
Stays flexible. Standard clear PVC is meant for 0°C to +40°C. Below freezing it goes stiff, so strips stop falling back into place and crack where they are pushed aside. Polar grade PVC stays soft down to -24°C.
Keeps the cold in. Strips that close properly cut the warm air that rushes in every time the door is used, which means less frost on the evaporator and less work for the refrigeration.
Keeps the view. The strip is clear, so people and vehicles coming the other way can be seen through it.

Handling
Strips are cut from the roll and travel rolled, so a slight curl is normal. Unroll them flat at room temperature overnight before fitting, then hang them; the curl relaxes much more slowly once they are in the cold. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth; avoid solvents and abrasive pads, which cloud the PVC.
Frequently asked questions
Do these come with plates or holes?

Can I use them in a chiller or at room temperature?
We do not recommend it. Polar grade PVC has extra plasticiser to keep it soft in the cold, and above freezing that can make the strips feel sticky and harder to pass through. For chillers and doors that stay at 0°C or above, choose our standard clear PVC strip.
