Description
Every reversing HGV ends its manoeuvre against something. If that is your dock wall or leveller, the repair bill lands on you. This poly laminated dock bumper gives the trailer a block of rubber to meet instead. It measures 300 x 380 x 105mm, weighs 15kg and is built from layers of conveyor belt clamped between two steel angles, with a fixing foot on each side and four holes ready for your anchors. Choose it for loading bays, warehouse doors and goods-in docks where you want a compact bolt-on buffer fixed on both sides.
Why this build works
The plies take the knock on edge. The block is a stack of conveyor belt strips standing side by side, with their cut edges facing the vehicle. Conveyor belt is rubber reinforced with textile fabric, so each strip is tough in its own right and the stack can take repeated contact in all weathers without much wear.
A steel foot on each side. Two bolts at 200mm centres clamp the block between a steel angle on the left and another on the right. Each angle has a 65mm foot with two fixing holes, so the bumper is held at four points, 380mm across. A vehicle meets the rubber, not your anchors, because the feet sit outside the block.
It stands 105mm off the wall. That stand-off sets how far a trailer stops from your dock face, and it gives the rubber room to work before anything reaches the concrete or the leveller.
Replacement is simple. A worn bumper comes off at its four fixings and a new one goes on in the same place. That is a far smaller job than repairing a broken dock edge or a bent leveller frame.
No compression or load figure is published for this line. If your specification needs one, call us before you order.
Where it is used
You will find bumpers like this on warehouse and distribution centre loading docks, at food and cold store goods-in doors, on manufacturing dispatch bays and in parcel depots. Its size suits a single door or the wall either side of a leveller. It needs 380mm of clear wall across its feet, so check the space beside your leveller first. If you have a long run of dock to cover, or trailers that rub up and down during loading, look at the options below.

Is this the right bumper?
| Your situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| A single door, with room for a fixing foot on both sides | This 300 x 380 x 105mm bumper |
| A wider contact area for trailers that park off line | 600 x 380 x 105mm laminated bumper |
| The widest laminated option | 900 x 400 x 105mm laminated bumper |
| A busy HGV bay where trailers rub up and down | 750 x 250 x 115mm bumper with a low friction face |
| Several doors, or spares to hold on site | Call us and we will go through the quantities |
Measure before you order. You need 380 x 300mm of clear, sound surface. Check that the 105mm stand-off matches any other bumpers on the same dock, because the one that stands furthest out takes the contact first.
Fitting and care
Most docks use one bumper each side of the opening, at trailer bed height. Mark out from the dimension drawing in the gallery, then offer the bumper up and check its four holes against your marks before you drill. The holes are about 22mm across, so check that your anchors suit them before you drill. Fix into sound concrete or structure, and have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock. A bumper can only pass on what its fixing point can take. At 15kg, one person can lift it, though a second pair of hands makes drilling and fixing easier.
Check the rubber, bolts and fixings during your routine dock inspections, and replace the bumper once the plies are badly torn or worn. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price for one bumper or a pair?
The price shown is for one bumper. Most doors use one each side, so add a quantity of 2 if you are protecting both sides of a bay.
Are fixings included?
No. The two steel angles and their clamping bolts are part of the bumper, but the anchors that hold it to your wall are not included, because the right ones depend on what you are fixing to. Call us if you want to talk it through.
Is it solid rubber?
No, and that is the point of this design. It is built from layers of conveyor belt, which is rubber reinforced with textile fabric. The textile edges can look frayed as the bumper wears. That is normal for this type of bumper.
Which way round does it fit?
Our photos show the plies running up and down with a fixing foot on the left and right, so it sits 380mm wide and 300mm tall. Measure your wall for that layout before you order.
Is it strong enough for HGVs?
It is made for loading dock contact from reversing vehicles, but no load figure is published for it. It is a compact bumper, so on a very busy bay or where trailers park off line, a wider laminated bumper or a low friction face may suit you better. Call us if you are unsure.
