Description
Freezer doorways need freezer-grade strips: standard strip curtain PVC is only rated down to 0°C, while polar grade PVC is made to stay flexible down to -24°C. These polar grade strips are cut to the length you choose and drilled with the hanging holes for an aluminium twin track fixing plate, ready to clamp on with the plate, nuts and bolts from your old strip. Choose smooth polar clear or polar ribbed, 200mm or 300mm wide, from 1 metre up to 3 metres (200mm) or 5 metres (300mm) long. The price shown is per strip and includes VAT.
Is my rail twin track?
A twin track rail is a slim aluminium extrusion with two parallel grooves along its face, fixed above the opening on L-shaped brackets. Each strip is clamped under its own flat aluminium fixing plate, held by bolts that slide in the grooves. Polar clear or polar ribbed?
Polar clear. Smooth freezer PVC with a faint blue tint, for the clearest view. Suits walk-in freezers and pedestrian and trolley doors. Available in 2mm or 3mm thick.
Polar ribbed. The same freezer grade PVC with raised ribs running down each strip. The ribs take the rubbing from pallets and cages, so the strip resists scuffing on busier pallet truck doors. Available as 200mm x 2mm or 300mm x 3mm.
Which size do I need?
Match the strips already on your rail. Measure the width of an old strip, or count the bolts across its fixing plate: on our strips, 200mm strips take 2 bolts and 300mm take 3. Choosing the length
Measure an old strip end to end. If it is damaged or stretched, measure from the top edge under the fixing plate to just above the floor. Lengths go up in 100mm steps to 3 metres, then in 500mm steps. For an exact length, choose the next size up, then trim the bottom of the strip with a sharp knife against a straight edge, before it goes into the cold. For a length in between, call us for a quote.

Fitting and safety
Loosen the nuts on the fixing plate holding the worn strip, slide the strip off the bolts and lift the plate away. Push the holes in the new strip over the bolts, put the plate back over the top edge, and tighten the nuts evenly so the strip is clamped flat. Check it overlaps the strips either side as before. Strips travel rolled, and in a freezer the curl takes much longer to drop out, so unroll them and leave them flat overnight in a warm room before you hang them. Work from a safe platform such as a podium step, never from the forks of a truck, and follow your site's cold store working rules.
Keep the view clear. Replace strips that have gone cloudy, scratched or frosted over, so people can see each other through the curtain. Keep vehicle speeds low through strip curtains. For doors with regular forklift traffic, a swivel hinge rail is the stronger choice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use polar grade strips in a chiller?
We do not recommend it. Polar grade PVC is made for 0°C to -24°C, and above 0°C the extra plasticiser can make it sticky. For chillers and normal rooms, choose our twin track clear strips or twin track ribbed strips.
Can I mix clear and ribbed strips on one rail?
Yes, if they are the same width they clamp onto the same rail with the same plates.
Are the fixing plates included?
No. The strips come cut and drilled, and you re-use the plate, nuts and bolts from the strip you are replacing. If you need new plates, call 01744 520 110.
How cold can these go?
They are rated from 0°C down to -24°C. For blast freezers and stores colder than -24°C, call 01744 520 110 before you order.
Why is there a minimum order?
Strips are cut and drilled to order, so the minimum order is 10 strips. If you need fewer, call 01744 520 110.
