Description
The top edge of a loading dock is where a straight bumper leaves you exposed. This L shaped bumper gives extra protection along the top edge of the loading dock where other dock bumpers do not. One arm runs along under the edge and the other drops down the dock face, so a trailer meets rubber rather than concrete at that high point. It measures 440 x 440 x 95mm, weighs 12kg and comes with free fixings included. You can buy the bumper or a steel front plate from this page.

Why an L shape works
It covers two directions from one piece. A straight bumper protects one line of the wall. Here the two 200mm wide arms cover the area along the edge and the area below it with a single moulded block, so there is no gap between two separate bumpers to go wrong.
The fixings sit below the surface. Each of the three holes is 75mm wide for the first 50mm, then 28mm through to the wall. The fixing sits down inside the rubber rather than on the face a trailer touches. One hole sits at the corner of the L and one near the end of each arm, at 250mm centres.
Solid rubber, nothing to assemble. It is one moulded block of SBR and natural rubber, with a hardness of 70-75 Shore A (+/- 5), good tear resistance and a service temperature of -15°C to 70°C. It is a durable, cost-effective way to protect your building, and there is no back plate to buy or fit.
A steel front plate can take the top edge. The optional plate has a rolled top edge to help protect the top of the bumper, and three raised round bosses, one for each hole in the bumper. It is a sensible addition where the top of the rubber is taking the wear. There are limits, covered below.
No compression or load figure is published for this line. If your specification needs one, call us before you order.
Where it is used
Use it at the top of a dock face beside a dock leveller, on older docks where trailers catch the top edge, and at goods-in doors where a straight bumper leaves the edge bare. Most bays use one each side of the leveller. Because the two arms are the same size, you can turn the bumper to suit either side.

Which part do you need?
| Your situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| The top edge of a dock needs protecting | Dock Bumper |
| The top of an existing bumper is wearing, on a site without heavy traffic | Left Handed or Right Handed Front Plate |
| You need a larger L shape | L shaped 450 x 450 x 100mm bumper |
| You want an extremely tough tyre compound | L shape 450 x 450 x 100mm in TPX |
| Steelwork or a short piece of wall, with no edge to cover | Small 330 x 305 x 100mm bumper |
| A busy bay where trailers rub up and down | 750 x 250 x 115mm bumper with a low friction face |
The plates are handed. Looking at the front with the rolled edge at the top, the left handed plate has its leg on the right as drawn, and the right handed plate is the mirror image. If you are not sure which you need, send us a photo of your bumper before you order. A front plate takes a smaller M24 washer than the bumper does, and one is included with each plate option.
Fitting and care
Mark out from the drawing above, then offer the bumper up and check the holes before you drill. Fix into sound concrete or structure, and have a competent installer confirm that the wall and anchors suit the loads at your dock. Set it below the top of the dock so it does not stand proud of the surface your forklifts use. At 12kg one person can lift it, but two make it easier to hold level while fixing.
Check the rubber and fixings during your routine dock inspections, and replace the bumper once it is torn or worn back towards the fixings. A dock bumper protects the building and vehicle from routine contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
Is the front plate included with the bumper?
No. The Dock Bumper option is the rubber bumper with free fixings included. The front plates are separate options at the top of this page, and each comes with a washer included.
Can I use the front plate on a busy site?
It is not appropriate for sites with heavy traffic. The plate has no strengthening side cheeks, just a rolled top edge. For a busy bay, call us and we will talk through a heavier option.
Are fixings included?
Yes, free fixings are included with the rubber bumper. If your wall needs a particular type of anchor, call us before you order. Each hole is 28mm through, opening to 75mm wide for the nut and washer.
Does it need a back plate?
There is no compatible back plate for this bumper. It fixes directly to the dock through its three holes.
How many do I need per door?
Most bays use one each side of the dock leveller, so add a quantity of 2 for a typical door. The price shown is for one.
