Description
Every reversing HGV finds the same spot on your dock. This sliding dock bumper takes that hit instead of your concrete, your leveller and the back of the trailer. It suits warehouse managers, site maintenance teams and loading bay installers who need a bumper built for daily trailer contact.
This dock bumper has a large impact area with no holes in the UHMWPE face plate for the back of the truck to snag on. The 50mm thick face can slide freely up and down in its galvanised steel cradle back plate. Compresses 11mm under 15 tonne load.
- 465mm by 275mm by 110mm
- Weight 27kg
- Free fixings included: four M16 anchor studs and two washers
- Cost-effective solution to protect your building from damage.

Why It Works
The face moves with the trailer
A trailer does not stay still at the dock. It sinks and rises on its suspension each time a forklift drives on and off. On a fixed bumper, that movement drags the trailer's rear frame up and down the same patch of material. Here the 50mm face travels with the trailer inside its steel cradle, so much less of that movement becomes scraping.
A low friction face with nothing to catch
UHMWPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) has a very low coefficient of friction, so steel slides across it instead of gripping it. There are no bolt holes in the face, which leaves no edge for a trailer's frame or underrun bar to snag on. The yellow colour also gives a driver a clear reference point when reversing.
Rubber behind, steel around
Behind the face sits a rubber packer, and the assembly compresses 11mm under a 15 tonne load. The galvanised steel cradle holds both parts and carries the load back into the dock wall through its fixings. Its base is 12mm thick.
Replace the wearing part, not the whole unit
The back plate stays bolted to the wall. When the face has worn, it comes out of the cradle and the new part goes in, with no new holes to drill.
Where It's Used
This type of bumper is fitted at distribution centres, manufacturing plants and any goods-in bay taking articulated trailers. It usually goes on the dock face either side of a dock leveller or door opening, and most bays need two.

Choosing the Right Option
Checking the size: you may also see this bumper quoted as 450 x 260 x 110mm or 470 x 275 x 110mm. The 450mm figure matches the height of the face, while the steel cradle is taller and wider, so allow up to 470 x 275mm of flat, sound wall and 110mm of depth off the dock face.
Choose the Dock Bumper for a new bay, or to replace a complete unit. It is the full assembly: sliding face, rubber packer and steel cradle back plate.
Choose the Back Plate only if your cradle has been damaged and the face is still serviceable, or if you want to fix the steel ahead of the rest of the job. It is the backing plate used in our Dock Bumper, with 4 fixing holes: the 2 at the top are 26mm to allow for M24 bolts to fix to an above dock angle bracket, if required, and the 2 at the bottom are 20mm.
If you want more face area, compare the 760 x 270 x 110mm and 760 x 275 x 165mm versions. For lighter duty bays, see the standard rubber dock bumper, or browse all dock bumpers.
Installation, Use & Care
Fit the bumper to sound concrete using four M16 through-anchor studs and two washers. Mark out from the drawing above, then offer the back plate up and check the holes against it before you drill. Set the height so the trailer's rear frame meets the face across its travel, and check the trailers you actually receive before drilling. At 27kg this is a two-person lift.
Check the face and fixings during routine bay inspections. This bumper protects against slow reversing contact. It does not replace wheel guides, wheel chocks or safe docking procedures, and damaged concrete should be repaired before fitting.
FAQ
Are fixings included?
Yes. Free fixings are included with the dock bumper: four M16 through-anchor studs, 125 to 140mm long, and two 50mm OD washers, for fitting to sound concrete. If you are fixing to steelwork or an above dock bracket, call us before ordering.
Does the dock bumper come with the back plate?
Yes. The back plate is the steel cradle that holds the sliding face and packer, and it is part of the 27kg assembly. You only need the separate Back Plate option as a replacement or a spare.
How many do I need per loading bay?
Most bays use two, one either side of the leveller or door opening. The price shown is for one bumper, so add two to your basket for a standard bay.
Why choose a sliding face over solid rubber?
Trailers rise and fall as they are loaded. A solid rubber bumper is scraped by that movement, while this face moves with the trailer and has a low friction surface. It suits busy bays where a plain rubber bumper keeps wearing out.
Can I mount it above the dock?
The two 26mm holes at the top of the back plate take M24 bolts for fixing to an above dock angle bracket, if your bay requires one. The bracket is not part of this listing, so call us on 01744 520 110 for advice.
