Description
If you run a yard, depot, farm or long private entrance, you need to know when someone has come through, even when you are inside and cannot see the gate. This wireless beam alarm kit does that with very little installation work. A pair of solar powered beam units faces each other across the entrance, up to 100 metres apart. Break the line between them and a plug-in chime sounds indoors, with up to 900 metres of wireless range in clear line of sight. There are no cables to trench across the access road and no mains supply needed at the gate.
Why it works
Two detectors have to be broken together
Each beam unit carries a pair of detectors set 60 mm apart, and both must be broken at the same moment to trigger the chime. That lets insects, leaves, small animals and blowing debris pass without an alert, which is the usual weakness of a single-beam system.
Solar charging suits remote gateposts
The units run on rechargeable AA batteries topped up by built-in solar panels, so the gate end needs no power. If a unit has to sit somewhere shaded, or you go through a long dull spell, a separate charging port takes a boost from a 9 to 12 V DC supply.
Signal range to spare
The 900 metre rating is line of sight. Around 400 to 600 metres is the realistic figure in most installations, which still reaches the office or farmhouse on many sites. A signal repeater, sold separately, can double the rated range.
- 100 m detection between the units, 900 m line-of-sight wireless range
- Paired detectors to cut false alerts from small animals and debris
- IP66 rated beam units with wall and pole brackets supplied
- 35 chime tones and 4 volume levels on the indoor receiver
Where it's used
Typical settings include haulage and contractors' yards, plant hire compounds, farm entrances and machinery sheds, storage sites and long private drives. It suits any entrance where staff work indoors or away from the gate and want warning of arrivals, especially where trenching a cable across the road would be costly.

Choosing the right option
Choose this kit if you want a simple indoor warning that someone or something has crossed a set line. It covers that line only, not a whole area, so measure the width of the entrance and keep it within 100 metres. It chimes indoors only: no outdoor siren, remote control or phone alert is listed in the kit. No insurer grading or certification is published, so it does not replace a full intruder alarm if your policy specifies one.
People and vehicles will trigger it, and so can large animals such as cattle, deer and horses. If stock or wildlife regularly use the entrance and you only want to know about vehicles, our buried probe driveway alarm responds to moving steel instead. Further sensors and receivers can be added to this kit, so call us about adding parts.
Installation, use and care
Switch on each unit at the rear, then fix them to facing posts or walls with the brackets supplied. Line them up by eye or with a string line. Put the receiver into its pairing mode and walk through the line: a low red glow confirms alignment and the receiver learns the signal. Take it out of pairing mode and test again. No mounting height is published, so test at your site. Keep the panels in daylight and keep the line clear of vegetation, parked vehicles and stacked stock. The receiver is plug-in, so keep it indoors.
Frequently asked questions
Are these laser beams?
They are often called laser beam alarms, but they are infrared beam sensors. They work the same way for you: break the line between the two units and the receiver chimes.
Do I need mains power at the gate?
No. The beam units charge from their own solar panels and signal wirelessly. Only the indoor receiver needs a socket, and it can run from 4 AA batteries, not supplied, as backup.
Can I have more than one receiver?
Yes. Additional receivers can be added with no stated limit, so you could have one in the office and one in the workshop. They are not included in this kit.
