Description
A new rubber buffer for a worn or torn HGV kerb. This is the solid black rubber insert that bolts along the front of our 1200mm steel and rubber HGV kerb. When a buffer is split, chunked or worn down after years of trailer tyres, you swap the rubber and keep the galvanised steel kerb where it is, instead of drilling out and replacing the whole unit. The price is for one insert. The steel kerb, bolts and reflective tape are not included.

Why replace the insert
The rubber does the work, so it wears first. On this kerb the rubber is the part the tyre meets. The steel channel and base plates behind it are hot dip galvanised and powder coated, and usually outlast the rubber by a long way.
It protects the tyre as well as the kerb. The buffer is shaped to cover the fixing stud nearest the tyre, so a sidewall rubs on rubber, not on steel or a bolt head. Once the rubber is torn away, that protection is gone.
No new holes in the yard. The steel kerb stays bolted down, so there is no drilling into the concrete and no lifting a 35kg kerb.
Where it is used
HGV and trailer parks, distribution centre yards, loading bay approaches and anywhere our 1200mm steel and rubber kerb is fitted to stop or guide heavy vehicles.

How to fit it
- Undo the bolts that hold the old rubber to the steel channel and lift the old buffer off.
- Clean the steel face and check the bolts. Replace any that are bent or badly corroded.
- Offer the new insert up with its flat back against the steel and its sloped face towards the tyre side.
- Bolt it through all 3 holes and tighten evenly. Check the bolts again after the first week of use.
Which one do you need?
| Your situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| The steel kerb is sound, only the rubber is damaged | This insert |
| A new run of kerb, or the steel is bent | Complete 1200mm steel and rubber kerb |
| A different kerb, or you are not sure which you have | Send us a photo before ordering |
Care
Look over the rubber and the bolts now and then, and replace the insert before it splits through to the steel. SBR rubber does not resist oil or fuel well, so keep it clear of leaks and wipe off any spills.
Frequently asked questions
Will it fit other makes of rubber kerb?
It is made for the 1200mm steel and rubber kerb we sell. Other kerbs may use a different section or bolt spacing, so send us a photo and the measurements before you order.
Does it come with the yellow reflective strips?
No. The face has two recesses for yellow glass bead tape, but the tape is not part of this insert. Call us if you need tape for it.
Are bolts included?
No. Most fitters reuse the kerb's own bolts if they are sound. If they are worn or seized, replace them at the same time.
Do I need to lift the kerb?
No. The insert bolts to the front of the steel channel, so the kerb stays fixed to the ground.
