Description
A solid 60mm forged steel ball, the go-to weld-on finial for fence posts, gate frames and balustrade corners. This sphere is 60mm across, about the size of a tennis ball, forged from mild steel and solid all the way through, with a lightly textured forged surface and no hole. Weld it onto a post cap or the end of a bar for a strong, rounded top. Each ball weighs about 0.85 kg. The price shown is for one sphere, with a minimum order of 5.

Fitting and care
Weld a flat cap plate on box section posts first and grind it clean. Sit the ball in the centre, using a washer or a short ring of tube as a seat to stop it rolling, check it is centred from the front and the side, tack it in three places and weld round. On a run of posts, set a string line across the tops so every ball sits at the same height.
Degrease, then prime with a zinc-rich or metal primer before painting. Hot-dip galvanising before powder coating gives the longest life outdoors.

Does it have a hole?
No. It is a plain ball that you weld on top of a cap plate, post or bar.
Is it perfectly smooth?
No. It has a forged surface with light texture. Paint hides most of it, or you can flap-disc it smoother before painting.
Is it painted?
No. It is raw steel and will rust if left bare outdoors, so prime and paint it, or galvanise it, once it is welded on.
