Description
A bold, square knuckle for heavier gates and railings. This cast collar is 68mm tall and 40 x 38mm across at its widest, with a square band in the middle, shaped waists and a slightly narrower band at each end. A square hole through the middle slides over 16mm square bar, so a row of them at one height gives a strong, blocky band of detail that suits square bar better than a round collar. The price shown is for one collar, with a minimum order of 10.
Why choose this collar
Square to match square bar. Its flat faces line up with the faces of the bar, so it looks like part of the bar rather than something added on.
Sized for 16mm bar. The 16.5mm to 17mm square hole slides over 16mm square bar with a little clearance and cannot turn once it is on.
Plenty of presence. At 68mm tall and 40mm across, it reads clearly on driveway gates, terrace railings and heavier balustrades where a small collar would be lost.
Ready to paint. It comes in a raw cast finish and takes the same primer and paint as the rest of the ironwork.

How many do you need?
Count one collar per bar for a single band, or two per bar for a pair. A metre of gate or railing in 16mm bar at 115mm centres has about 9 bars.

Fitting and care
Thread the collars onto the bars before the bars are fixed at both ends. Mark a level line across the bars, slide each collar to the line, then hold it with a small tack weld at the top and bottom edge, or a metal adhesive if you are not welding.
Wire brush and degrease, then prime with a metal primer and paint to match the rest of the ironwork. We do not recommend hot-dip galvanising for this collar, as cast parts can blister or crack in the zinc bath. Use a zinc-rich primer instead outdoors.

Is the price for one collar?

Will it fit 16mm round bar?
It will slide on, but it can turn and will sit loose in the corners of the square hole. For round bar, choose a collar with a round hole.
Can I fit it to bars that are already welded in?
No. It is a solid casting, so it has to go on before the bar is fixed at both ends.
Can it be galvanised?
We do not recommend hot-dip galvanising for this part. Prime and paint it, or use a zinc-rich primer before your top coat.
