Description

A plain mild steel ring, 100mm across the outside, rolled on edge from 16 x 6mm flat bar and ready to weld into your metalwork. From the front it shows a neat 6mm rim; from the side it is a 16mm deep band, which gives plenty of edge to weld to the bars either side. Use it in railings, gates, balustrade panels, fire screens and garden metalwork. It is supplied as raw steel for you to weld in and then paint or galvanise. The price shown is for one ring, with a minimum order of 15.

Why choose this ring

A deeper band than 12 x 6mm rings. The 16mm depth stands out more strongly in a railing and gives a longer edge to weld against each bar, so the ring sits square and the joint is strong.

A true circle, ready to fit. Rolled to 100mm outside, it drops between bars set about 100mm apart, under a top rail, or inside a frame without any bending on site.

Raw steel, so any finish works. With no coating to grind off, it welds cleanly and takes primer, paint, powder coating or hot-dip galvanising after fabrication.

Where it is used

  • A row of rings under the top rail of garden and front-wall railings
  • Decorative infill in driveway gates, side gates and garden gates
  • Balustrade and stair panels, fire screens and room dividers
  • Garden arches, plant supports, wall art and blacksmith projects

Fitting and finishing

Set the ring in place and tack weld it to the bars or frame at each contact point, with the butt joint against a bar or at the bottom where it will not be seen. Check it sits square, then finish the welds. Remove mill scale and weld spatter with a wire brush or flap disc and degrease before painting.

Outdoors, raw steel will rust if left bare. For a long life, hot-dip galvanise the finished panel, or use a zinc-rich primer followed by a metal paint or powder coat. Indoors, a primer and a coat of black metal paint is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price for one ring?

Yes, one ring, with a minimum order of 15. For 50 or more, call us for a quantity price.

Is 100mm the outside or the inside?

100mm is across the outside. The opening inside is about 88mm, because the bar is 6mm thick.

Is the ring welded closed?

It has one butt joint. Weld it closed, or place the joint against a bar so it disappears when you weld the ring in.

Can it go outside?

Yes, once it is protected. It is raw mild steel, so galvanise it or prime and paint it after welding, otherwise it will rust.

What is the difference between 16 x 6mm and 20 x 6mm?

Both rims are 6mm thick from the front. The 20 x 6mm ring is 20mm deep from the side instead of 16mm, so it looks heavier and suits bigger gates.
