How to Calculate the Correct Size

To determine the liner dimensions required for your pond, apply the following calculation:

The 0.5m allowance accounts for overlap at the pond edges, which is essential for anchoring the liner and preventing water from tracking beneath it. If your pond has shelved or terraced sides, measure the total surface run rather than the straight depth. When in doubt, size up — excess liner can be trimmed; an undersized liner cannot be extended.

Installation Guidance

Begin by removing all sharp stones, roots, and protruding objects from the excavated surface. Lay the included geotextile underlay across the base and sides before positioning the liner. The underlay creates a protective buffer zone that prevents ground movement and root growth from compromising the waterproof membrane over time.

Drape the liner loosely into the excavation — do not stretch it taut. As the pond fills with water, the weight will gently press the liner into the contours of the excavation. Pleating and folding at corners is straightforward with this material. Anchor the overlap around the perimeter with edging stones, paving, or turf before trimming any excess.

If joining two sheets is necessary for very large applications, use a compatible PVC pond liner jointing tape or solvent weld adhesive to create a watertight seam. Overlaps should be a minimum of 150mm and the bonding surface must be clean and dry before application.
