In a food area, a split, scuffed or cloudy strip is more than an eyesore. It harbours dirt, it is hard to clean, and it is the first thing an auditor notices on a doorway. These food grade clear PVC strips are cut to the length you choose and arrive with a 430-grade stainless steel hook-on plate already riveted across the top, ready to hook straight onto your rail. Lift the worn strip off, hook the new one on, and the doorway is back to a clean, clear barrier without taking the curtain down. The PVC is food contact grade, to EC 1935/2004, for areas where raw or uncovered food may touch the strips. 200mm x 2mm, from 1000mm to 3000mm long, with the plate included in the price.

Why food grade strip

Made for food contact. Ordinary clear PVC is fine for most doors, but where strips may brush against raw or uncovered food, food grade PVC adds compliance with the EU food contact regulations: EC 1935/2004, EC 2023/2006 and EU 10/2011. The PVC carries a small repeating food contact mark, so it can be told apart from standard strip.

Clear and easy to keep clean. The strips are glass-clear, so staff see who is coming the other way, and smooth, so they wipe down with your usual cleaning routine.

Swap one strip at a time. Every strip has its own stainless plate, so a damaged strip lifts off the rail and a new one hooks on in seconds.

Which strip do I need?

These fit hook-on rails, the flat stainless rail with a row of hooks along its edge, with 41mm slot centres. That is the rail on our food grade hook-on strip curtain kit, which uses this same 200mm x 2mm strip. Check that your old strips are 200mm wide with a metal plate across the top.

Choosing the length

Measure an old strip end to end, including the plate. If it is damaged, measure from the rail to just above the floor. Lengths run in 100mm steps. If you fall between two lengths, go up one: the bottom of the strip trims with a sharp knife against a straight edge. These strips are recommended for doors up to 3m high.

Fitting

Lift the old strip so its plate comes off the hooks on the rail. Line up the new plate with the hooks, hook it on and let it hang, overlapping the strips either side as before. Strips travel rolled, so unroll them and leave them flat overnight before you hang them, and the slight curl at the bottom drops out. Clean new strips before use, as you would any surface in a food area.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use these in a freezer?

No. They are recommended for 0°C to +40°C, such as kitchens, food production rooms and chilled areas above freezing. For freezer doors, see our hook-on freezer replacement strips.

Do I need food grade strips?

Where strips may touch raw or uncovered food, food grade PVC is the safer choice and helps with food safety audits. For doors where food is always packed or covered, our hook-on clear replacement strips are a lower cost option.

Is the plate included?

Yes. Every strip comes with its stainless steel plate fitted, and the price shown includes it.

How often should strips be replaced?

PVC strip is a consumable. Replace any strip that is split, badly scratched or too cloudy to see through, because damaged strips are harder to keep clean. Busy doors need new strips sooner.
