Description
A parked vehicle can still move. Lorries and vans can creep as loading equipment jolts them, and a driver can pull away before the team is clear. This black rubber wheel chock puts a physical stop at the tyre. It measures approximately 295 x 150 x 190mm, is rated for vehicles up to 10 tonnes and weighs under 5kg, so one person can carry it to the wheel by its moulded handle. If you run vans, Lutons or lighter lorries at a goods-in yard, depot or workshop, this is the size to look at. The price is for one chock.

Why this chock works
A curved ramp that sits against the tyre. The thin toe slides under the tyre and the concave ramp follows the curve of the tread. If the wheel starts to roll, it presses down onto the ramp, so the chock is pushed into the ground rather than simply shoved along it.
Ribs across the tyre face. A row of rounded ribs runs across the ramp, giving the tread an uneven surface to bear against instead of smooth rubber.
A handle that can't come off. A horizontal bar is moulded into the hollow rear of the chock, so there is no rope to fray or fitting to work loose.
Light enough to get used. Made from SBR rubber and lightly cored underneath to keep the weight down. At under 5kg, it is easy to carry across a yard or keep on the vehicle.
The 10-tonne figure is the maximum vehicle weight for this chock, so check your vehicle's plated weight. No test standard or slope rating is published for this line. If your specification needs a tested chock, call us before you order.
Where it is used
Use it at goods-in yards, delivery bays and trade counters, on vans and Lutons being unloaded by tail lift, in workshops when a vehicle is stood for repair, and in fleet depots for parked vehicles and trailers. In the UK, LGV can mean light or large goods vehicle, so go by the 10-tonne limit rather than the name.

How to use it safely
The ramp goes against the tyre and the flat back faces away from it.

- Apply the parking brake, stop the engine and take the keys out.
- Push the toe under the tyre until the ramp is hard against the tread.
- On a slope, chock the downhill side first. Use a second chock on the other side of the tyre.
- Before removing the chocks, make sure nearby vehicle movements have stopped and everyone is clear.
- Take the chocks away before the vehicle moves, and never drive over one.
HSE guidance says sites need a safe system of work for chocks, with drivers staying put until a designated person signals that it is safe to go. A chock backs up the parking brake and does not replace it.
Which chock do you need?
| Your situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| Vans, Lutons and lighter lorries up to 10 tonnes | This 295 x 150 x 190mm chock |
| The same 10-tonne rating, but in bright yellow | 270 x 120 x 185mm yellow chock |
| HGVs and artics up to 44 tonnes | 280 x 196 x 186mm 44-tonne chock |
| Stopping trailers as they reverse into a bay | 1000mm bolt-down wheel stop |
Care
Check each chock before use and replace it if the rubber is split or the handle is damaged. Wipe off oil and grease so it keeps its grip, and put it on firm, clean ground.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price for one chock or a pair?
The price is for one chock. Set the quantity to 2 if you want one each side of the tyre, which is the usual choice for a vehicle being loaded or parked on a slope.
Which way round does it go?
The thin toe goes under the tyre and the curved ribbed ramp sits against the tread. The flat back with the handle faces away from the wheel, so you can reach the handle to pull it clear.
Is it high visibility?
No, this one is plain black rubber. HSE guidance says chocks should be brightly coloured so drivers and workers can see them. On a busy site, choose our yellow 10-tonne chock or make this one easier to spot in line with your risk assessment.
Does it need fixing down?
No. It is free-standing and moved by hand each time. It has no eye bolt or chain point, so if you need something fixed permanently in a bay, look at the bolt-down wheel stop instead.
Is there a holder to keep it on the vehicle or a wall?
Yes. Our 230mm yellow steel holder and 245mm yellow steel holder both fit this chock. They are sold separately.
