Description
A traditional scroll gate top, 1015mm wide and 360mm high, made from 12 x 6mm mild steel flat bar. A tall spear rises from a heart of scrolls in the centre, with a C-scroll and leaf each side and long arms sweeping out to curled ends. The joints are bound with collars, so it looks like hand-forged ironwork. Weld it along the top rail of a garden gate, side gate or railing gate about a metre wide to turn a plain gate into a feature. It comes in raw steel, ready to paint or galvanise. The price shown is for one gate top.

Why choose this gate top
Ready assembled. The scrolls, spear, leaves and collars come joined as one piece, so you only need to weld it to the gate, not build the pattern bar by bar.
Sized for a 1 metre gate. At 1015mm wide it spans a standard single garden or side gate, and the 360mm rise gives a clear arch above the bars.
A proper ironwork look. Collared joints, the centre spear and leaf details give a plain bar gate the look of a traditional forged gate for a fraction of the cost.
Easy to weld. 12 x 6mm flat bar is light enough to sit neatly on a gate top rail and thick enough to weld without burning through.

Fitting and finishing
Lay the gate flat, centre the gate top on the top rail and clamp it in place. Tack weld where the spear and the lower scrolls touch the rail, check it is central and upright, then weld fully. For a slightly narrower gate the outer arms can be shortened with a cut-off wheel before fitting.
Raw steel will rust outdoors, so finish the gate and gate top together. Clean off mill scale, prime with a zinc-rich primer and top coat with a metal paint, or have the whole gate hot-dip galvanised or powder coated.

Is the price for one gate top?
Yes, one gate top, ready assembled. A pair of gates needs two.
What width of gate does it suit?
A gate about 1 metre wide. It is 1015mm across at the curled ends, so it can sit flush with a 1 metre gate or overhang slightly. The outer arms can be shortened for a narrower gate.
Does it come painted?
No, it is raw mild steel so it can be welded and then finished with the gate. Prime and paint it, or galvanise or powder coat it.
Can it be galvanised?
Yes. It is mild steel flat bar and can be hot-dip galvanised once it is welded to the gate.
Can I fix it without welding?
Welding gives the best result. If you cannot weld, it can be bolted through drilled holes in the lower scrolls to the top rail with small stainless bolts.
