Why it works

The fabric does the heavy lifting. At 380g per square metre, this PVC-coated polyester is substantially heavier than the thin tops supplied with budget garden gazebos. The coating is what makes it waterproof rather than merely shower-resistant: the material is rated to a 4,000mm hydrostatic head, meaning it withstands a 4,000mm column of water before any passes through. In practice that covers sustained, heavy British rain rather than a passing shower. The outer face is ribbed, which adds tear resistance along the weave.

Water gets in at the seams, not the panels. Every seam on this canopy is thermally taped — heat-welded rather than simply stitched — so the needle holes that would otherwise wick water are sealed. Corners and stress points carry double stitching, which is where a canopy under wind load normally fails first. Anchor loops are sewn into all four corners so guy ropes can be run to ground weights or pegs.

It is rated for public settings. The fabric is flame retardant to BS 5438:1989 and BS 7837:1996, the standards event organisers and market operators commonly ask to see, and colour fastness is tested to EN ISO 105 802-2002.

Choosing the right option

Measure the frame, not the old canopy. A canopy that has been up for several seasons will have stretched, so measure your frame leg-to-leg with it fully opened and buy to that figure. These canopies are sized to standard UK pop-up frame footprints and are cut to pull taut over them — a canopy that measures slightly under the frame size is correct, not faulty.

Mind the shape. The 1.5m x 1.5m, 2m x 2m and 3m x 3m are square and sit on a pyramid roof rising to a central point. The 2m x 3m, 4.5m x 3m and 3m x 6m are rectangular and form a hip roof with a ridge along the middle. A square canopy will not fit a rectangular frame, whatever the floor area.

Colour choice varies by size. The full twelve-colour range is offered on the 3m x 3m only. The smaller 1.5m and 2m sizes run to three or four colours. If a size and colour pairing is not in the selector, it is not made.

Installation, use and care

Open the frame part-way, lay the canopy centrally over it, locate each corner over its leg, then raise the frame fully so the fabric pulls tight. Fasten the internal ties to the roof bars and run guy ropes from the corner loops to ground weights or pegs whenever the gazebo is left standing. Take it down in high winds — no pop-up gazebo is a permanent structure. Sponge clean with mild detergent and cold water; do not machine wash, bleach or pressure wash, as this can lift the PVC coating. Dry it fully before folding, since storing it damp will mark the fabric.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include the frame or the sides? No. This is the canopy only. Your existing frame and any sidewalls you already own are unaffected, and sidewalls are bought separately.

Will it fit a gazebo from another brand? It fits standard pop-up frames of the matching footprint and shape. Measure your frame leg-to-leg when fully opened and match that to the size you order; if your frame is a non-standard size, it will not fit.

Is it genuinely waterproof or just shower-resistant? Waterproof. The PVC coating is rated to a 4,000mm hydrostatic head and the seams are thermally taped, so water does not pass through the panels or wick through the stitching.

Can I leave it up permanently? No. It is designed for temporary use. Take it down in high winds and when the gazebo is not in use, and it will last considerably longer.
