Description
Strengthen weak concrete and prepare damaged floors for painting with this Deep Penetrating Epoxy Floor Primer. Its low-viscosity, two-part formula penetrates porous substrates and binds friable cementitious material, creating a sealed surface ready for a compatible floor coating.
Designed for weak, dusty and damaged concrete floors, this clear epoxy primer helps reduce surface porosity and improve the condition of the substrate before painting. One coat is generally sufficient before applying a compatible floor paint.
Key Features
- Deep penetration: Absorbs into porous concrete to consolidate weak surface material.
- Surface strengthening: Binds friable concrete and damaged cementitious substrates.
- Excellent sealing properties: Reduces porosity before applying a floor coating.
- Clear finish: Suitable as a preparatory layer beneath compatible paint systems.
- Easy application: Apply using a suitable roller and brush.
- Two-part system: Supplied as resin and activator.
Suitable Applications
Suitable for weak concrete floors, damaged cementitious surfaces and porous substrates requiring deep penetration and sealing before painting.
This primer is not self-levelling and will not smooth out uneven floors.
Coverage Guide
| Pack Size | Approximate Coverage |
|---|---|
| 1kg | 3–4m² |
| 2.5kg | 8–10m² |
| 5kg | 15–20m² |
| 10kg | 35–40m² |
Coverage depends on the porosity and condition of the surface. Highly absorbent substrates may require more product.
Surface Preparation
Remove loose or flaking paint and abrade the surface to create a mechanical key. Mechanical preparation, such as grinding or shot blasting, is recommended for the best results. Sanding may be suitable where mechanical preparation is impractical.
After preparation, thoroughly sweep and vacuum the floor to remove dust, debris and contaminants. If using a suitable concrete etching cleaner, apply it to bare concrete only and follow its preparation instructions.
Mixing and Application
Apply when the ambient temperature is at least 7°C.
- Mix Part A using a mixing paddle attached to an electric drill for approximately one minute.
- Add all of Part B and mix for a further 90 seconds. Keep the paddle submerged to minimise air incorporation.
- Immediately transfer the entire mixture into a suitable plastic paint scuttle or tray.
- Apply promptly using a resin-suitable nylon-bonded roller. Use a brush to cut in around edges.
- Allow the primer to cure until it is no longer tacky before applying a compatible floor coating. This typically takes 8–12 hours at 20°C.
