Description
If you run a yard, farm, depot or long private entrance, you need to know when a vehicle has come in, without a siren going off every time a deer, fox or stray dog crosses the drive. This wireless driveway alarm kit is built for that job. A slim probe buried beside the entrance senses moving steel and signals a weatherproof outdoor receiver up to 800 metres away in clear line of sight. The receiver then sounds an outdoor siren you can set for tone, volume and duration, so both you and the visitor know they have been detected. Everything is controlled from a long range remote.
Why it works
It responds to steel, not body heat
Infrared driveway sensors react to warm moving objects, which is why animals set them off. This probe only responds to moving steel, such as a vehicle, a push bike or a steel gate being opened. That makes it a sensible choice where large animals roam. It can even sit next to a locked steel gate and will only react if the gate moves.
Hidden sensor, flexible transmitter position
The probe goes just under the surface or grass. Its cable runs back to a battery powered transmitter box, which lets you put the box out of sight in the spot with the best wireless path.
You choose how loud and how long
The siren adjusts from about 106 decibels down to silent, with 32 selectable tones. Internal dip-switches set the alarm duration from 1 second up to 30 minutes, or latched on until you turn it off from the remote.
- Detects moving steel only, avoiding false alarms from wildlife
- Up to 800 m wireless range in line of sight, typically 400 to 600 m on real sites
- Arm, disarm and SOS from the remote, with a light confirming each command
Where it's used
Typical settings include haulage and contractors' yards, plant hire depots, farm entrances and machinery sheds, storage compounds, quarries and long private drives. It also suits sites where the office or farmhouse is well away from the gate, with mains power at the building but none at the entrance.

Choosing the right option
Choose this kit if you want an audible outdoor warning and your main concern is vehicles. It is not a people detector: someone walking in without a bike or steel object will normally not trigger the probe, so it does not replace a full intruder alarm. No insurer grading or certification is published for it, so check with your insurer if your policy specifies an alarm standard.
Measure the distance from the entrance to your receiver position before ordering, and plan on 400 to 600 metres rather than 800, because buildings and trees reduce range. If you have more than one entrance, the receiver can take extra sensors on each channel, and the second output can drive another 12 V device such as a floodlight on its own timer. Extra remotes can be added too. Call us about adding parts.
Installation, use and care
Bury the probe just under the surface, parallel to the driveway. No exact depth or detection distance is published, so test with a vehicle, adjust the sensitivity on the transmitter board, then backfill. Run the cable in protective sleeving to stop small animals chewing it. Keep the transmitter clear of steel where you can, as metal can interfere with wireless signals. The receiver needs a mains socket for its plug-in supply, which should be kept in a dry location. Wire the siren to a 12 V output. Use timed settings near neighbours, because latched mode keeps sounding until disarmed.
Frequently asked questions
Will animals set it off?
The probe only senses moving steel, so cattle, deer and other wildlife should not trigger it. Anything with steel moving past the probe can, including push bikes, farm machinery and shod horses, so set the sensitivity on site.
Will it sound when the system is disarmed?
No. The siren responds to the probe only when the receiver is armed, so you can disarm it from the remote before driving through. The SOS button is the exception: it sounds the siren even when disarmed, until you press OFF.
Do I need mains power at the gate?
No. The probe and transmitter run on batteries and signal wirelessly. Only the receiver needs mains power, through its 12 V plug-in supply, so it can sit at the building within wireless range of the entrance.
