Description

If you run a farm yard, building site, plant compound or storage yard, you usually find out about a break-in the morning after. This kit is built to tell you while it is happening. It puts an invisible detection line across a gateway or boundary. When a person or vehicle breaks that line while the system is armed, it phones or texts up to nine keyholders and sets off a 120 decibel siren and strobe. The beams charge from built-in solar panels and talk to the control box by radio, so you do not need to dig trenches or run cable across the yard. You provide mains sockets in a nearby building for the control box and siren, plus a SIM card.

What is in the kit

  • 2 sets of solar perimeter beams (4 columns), with wall and pole mounting brackets
  • 1 wireless 4-channel receiver
  • 1 4G auto-dialler with keypad and 2 remote controls
  • 1 wireless siren and strobe with 3-pin plug-in transformer
  • 1 weatherproof mounting box and power supply
  • 1 set of manuals

Why it works

Two detection levels that let small animals pass

Each column carries two detection pairs, one above the other. Within a pair, the two beams sit 60mm apart and both must be broken at the same moment to raise an alarm. That is what lets small animals, insects, leaves and blown debris pass without triggering it. Having two levels also makes the line harder to step over or crawl under. The beams are invisible in use: the red lines in our photo only show where they run.

No cable between the beams and the control box

Each set covers up to 100 metres and sends its signal up to 900 metres, line of sight. Buildings, trees and rising ground shorten that, so plan on 400 to 500 metres between beams and control box unless you have a clear view. A charging port covers long dull spells or a shaded position.

Alerts that reach whoever is on call

The dialler works on 4G, 3G and 2G networks. When it calls, a keyholder can press * to stop it calling others and keep it armed, or # to stop the calls and disarm it. You can arm and disarm by remote control, text message, keypad, built-in timer or phone app.

Where it is used

Typical sites are farm yards and entrances, building sites, plant and machinery compounds, equipment stores and long private access roads. It suits any site where the risk is outdoors and the nearest power is in a barn, workshop or site cabin some distance away.

Choosing the right option

This is one kit at one price, so check it fits your site. Start by counting straight lines. Each set guards one line of up to 100 metres, so two sets cover two separate gateways or two sides of a yard, and every corner needs another set. Next, site the siren within its 100 metre working range of the control box, or up to 300 metres maximum with a clear line of sight. If you get regular power cuts, the dialler and siren have back-up batteries but no back-up supply is listed for the receiver in this kit, so speak to us first. Finally, check your insurance. This alarm calls your own keyholders. It is not connected to a monitoring centre and carries no insurer approval or grading that we can point to, so ask your insurer before relying on it for cover.

Installation, use and care

Fix each pair of columns facing each other on posts or walls, using the brackets supplied, then line them up with the built-in test lights. Pick a position with good daylight on the solar panels, and keep long grass, branches and stored materials out of the line. Mount the box inside a building with power, out of sight if you can, because the remotes do not need to see it. Fit the siren high up, within range. Wipe the panels and lenses clean regularly.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need a SIM card?

Yes, and one is not included. Pay-as-you-go or contract will do, and no data allowance is needed for calls and texts. Published details for this dialler differ on SIM size, so call us or check the slot on arrival before buying one.

Will animals set it off?

Small animals, leaves and debris are designed to pass, because both beams in a pair must break together. Larger animals such as cattle, horses or deer can still break the line, so position the beams with livestock in mind.

What happens in a power cut?

The dialler and siren have their own back-up batteries, and the dialler can send a power failure alert. No back-up is listed for the receiver, so beam signals may not reach the dialler until mains returns.

Can I add to it later?

Yes. The receiver handles up to 128 detectors and the dialler has 95 wireless zones, so extra beams, outdoor sensors, gate contacts and sirens can be added. Call us with your site layout and we will tell you what is compatible.
