Description
The fitting that lets a knee rail pass a post at any slope. This four-part moulded yellow GRP fitting clamps round a 50mm GRP post and carries a rail on both sides through pivoting arms, so the knee rail follows a ramp or stair at whatever slope it has. It can also change the angle of a top rail where a stair meets a landing. The connectors can be bonded or bolted to the tubes; the joint takes two M6 rivet nuts and bolts, sold separately. The price shown is for one.

Load tested system
The 50mm GRP tube handrail system these parts belong to has been load tested by an independent UK laboratory as a straight two-rail balustrade, 1100mm high with a mid rail at 550mm and posts at 1000mm centres. It carried 0.4 kN/m, above the 0.36 kN/m general duty load for industrial handrails in BS 4592-0.

Fitting
Close the centre pair round the post at knee rail height. Push a connector onto the end of each rail and fit it to the pivoting arms. Set both rails to the slope, then fix the joint with the M6 rivet nuts and bolts and bond or bolt the connectors to the tubes.
Care
Wash down with water and mild detergent. Check the bolts once a year and after any impact. GRP needs no painting.
