Description

Reserved bays get clipped. Someone reverses a little too far, a rigid post takes the hit, and you end up with a bent post, a scuffed bumper and an awkward conversation. This yellow fold down parking post is built for exactly that bay. A coil spring sits in the post, so it can move up to about 30 degrees if a vehicle touches it, which reduces the chance of damage to both the post and the vehicle.

It suits facilities managers, landlords, site managers and anyone looking after allocated spaces in a busy car park. Lock it up to hold the bay, unlock it and fold it down when your own vehicle needs to get in.

Why it works

The spring takes the knock

The upper tube and the base are joined by an exposed steel coil spring. Under pressure the upper tube leans and the spring bends, instead of the whole load going straight into the base plate and bolts. That is the real difference from a rigid fold down post, and it matters most in tight car parks where low-speed contact is routine rather than rare.

Easy to see, easy to use

The very bright yellow powder coat stands out against tarmac and concrete, so drivers notice the post before they reach it. The lock is built into the base, so there is no separate padlock to lose or leave behind. Two keys are supplied, and the post is light and easy to raise and lower by hand.

Folds down out of the way

Unlocked, the post folds down to a height of 75mm. A rubber bung near the top of the tube rests on the ground when the post is down, which stops the steel tube sitting directly on the surface.

  • Moves up to about 30 degrees under pressure
  • 610mm high when up, 75mm when folded
  • 60mm steel tube with a 4mm wall
  • Integral lock in the base, 2 keys per post
  • Keyed different or keyed alike

Where it's used

Staff and visitor car parks, trade parks, office and retail bays, managed flats and shared private parking. It works anywhere a space needs reserving and passing vehicles sometimes get close. It is equally at home on a private driveway that sits beside a tight turning area.

Choosing the right option

Keyed all different gives every post its own lock and keys. Choose it when each bay belongs to a different person, such as flats or individually let spaces.

Keyed all the same lets one key open every post. Choose it when the same people look after several bays, such as a site team or a managed car park. Order all the posts you need together.

This post is for reserving a space, and it is not a security post. If you need something harder to move or a taller post, compare the 76mm black and yellow fold down post, the 900mm yellow and red post or the removable security post. For a wider barrier across the bay, see the red fold down hoop barrier.

Installation, use and care

The post bolts down through four 13mm holes in the base plate. Bolts are not included because the right fixing depends on your surface. M10 anchors are the usual choice for sound concrete and M12 tarmac fixings for tarmac. Check the surface is solid first, because a spring post can only perform if the base stays firmly in place.

Position the post so it folds along the bay rather than into the path of passing traffic. Keep the lock clean and oil it from time to time, especially after winter. Do not force the post over to its limit by hand.

Frequently asked questions

Can it stop a vehicle being stolen or a bay being forced?

No. It is a parking reservation post designed to give under pressure, so it deters and marks rather than blocks. Choose one of the rigid or removable posts above if security is the main concern.

What happens if a car hits it?

At low speed the spring lets the post move up to about 30 degrees, which reduces the chance of damage to the post and the vehicle. It is not designed for hard impacts or for being aggressively bent over, and no post can guarantee zero damage.

Can a car drive over it when it is folded?

The post sits 75mm high when folded, so most vehicles pass over it. Check the clearance first on lowered cars or those with low spoilers.

Are the bolts included?

No. You choose fixings to suit your surface. See the installation section above for the usual sizes.
