Description
Classroom doors get propped open all day. Heat drains into the corridor, noise drifts in, and a closed door means a hand on a handle and nobody able to see who is on the other side. This clear PVC strip curtain keeps the doorway open and covered at the same time. Pupils and staff walk straight through, the strips fall back behind them, and everyone can see who is coming. It hangs on a QuickMount push-fit peg rail made from toughened polypropylene, with no metal plates or hooks on the strips. Choose from 12 widths and 6 heights, from 813mm x 2000mm up to 2489mm x 2500mm, for classrooms, nurseries, dining halls, sports halls and corridors.

Why schools and nurseries choose it
No metal parts on the strips. Each strip has a row of small slots near its top edge that press over plastic pegs on the rail. If a child swings on a strip or pulls one down, there is no steel plate or hook to come down with it. The strip simply comes off the pegs and pushes straight back on.
Clear enough to see who is coming. Standard clear PVC lets light through with very little distortion, so a teacher can see into the corridor and children can see each other before they walk through. Rooms stay bright, and staff keep sight of the room next door.
Helps hold heat and cut noise. The strips close behind each person who passes. That helps hold heat in a classroom with an open door, cuts draughts from outside doors, and softens noise from busy corridors and dining halls. It also helps keep dust, leaves and insects out.
Heavy overlap. The kit is sold as 50% overlap. Each 200mm strip starts 152mm along from the last, so neighbouring strips overlap by 48mm and nearly half of every strip is doubled up. The curtain closes well when it hangs still and stays easy for small children to push through.
Easy to look after. The PVC is flexible and impact resistant, carries anti-UV filters, and is DOP free and fully REACH compliant. Wipe it with warm soapy water. A damaged strip pulls off the pegs and a new one pushes on, without taking the rail down.
Where it is used
Classroom and cloakroom doorways, nursery rooms opening onto covered play areas, dining hall and kitchen servery doors, sports hall equipment stores, reception areas, and corridor links between buildings. It also suits care homes, surgeries and community buildings where a metal-free fitting matters. It is made for people on foot and careful trolley use.
Fire safety: a strip curtain is not a fire door. A fire rating is not published for this line, so do not fit it in place of a fire door or across an escape route without checking your fire risk assessment.

Choosing the right size
Width. Measure between the inside edges of the door frame and choose a curtain a little wider, so the outer strips cover the edges. For a 900mm opening, the 965mm curtain is the right choice. All sizes are nominal.
Height. Measure from the underside of the frame to the floor, allowing for the rail if it fixes above the frame. If you fall between two heights, go up one: the strips trim with a sharp knife to finish just above the floor.
| Width | Strips | Typical opening |
|---|---|---|
| 813mm to 1118mm | 5 to 7 | Classroom and office doors |
| 1270mm to 1880mm | 8 to 12 | Double doors, corridors and nursery openings |
| 2032mm to 2489mm | 13 to 16 | Hall, servery and wide garden doors |

Fitting and care
Fix the rail to the door head, a lintel or other solid surface across the full width of the opening, because it is not self-supporting. Use M8 fixings to suit the surface, push each strip's slots over the pegs and check the overlap. The strips travel rolled, so a slight curl at the bottom is normal and relaxes in time. Unrolling them flat overnight before hanging helps.
Fit the curtain inside the doorway wherever you can, because weather wears PVC faster and clouds it. Strips are a consumable: busy doors need new strips sooner, and you can replace them one at a time with our QuickMount clear replacement strips, cut to length and punched ready to push on.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe for young children?
There are no metal plates, hooks or rods on the strips, so a strip that is pulled down has nothing hard attached to it. As with any fitting, adults should supervise young children near it, and the rail must be fixed securely across its full length.
What is in the kit?
The QuickMount peg rails and the clear strips, cut to your chosen height and slotted ready to push on, plus fitting instructions. Rail fixings are not included because they depend on what you are fixing into. The rail takes M8 fixings.
Can it go across a fire exit or fire door?
No. A fire rating is not published for this line. Do not fit it in place of a fire door or across an escape route without checking your fire risk assessment.
Can we cut the strips shorter?
Yes. Trim them with a sharp knife against a straight edge so they finish just above the floor.
We need several classrooms. Can you help?
Yes. Call 01744 520 110 or email sales@industrialsuppliesco.co.uk with the door sizes and we will confirm price and delivery before you order.
