Description
A standard rectangular dock buffer protects the face of your loading dock but leaves its top edge exposed. This L shaped SBR rubber dock bumper covers both in one piece: one 450mm arm runs along the top of the dock and the other runs down the face. It measures 450 x 450 x 100mm, weighs 14kg and bolts on at three points, with free fixings included. It stands 100mm proud of the wall, so a reversing trailer meets rubber before it reaches your concrete or dock steel. It suits site managers and maintenance teams protecting goods-in doors at warehouses, distribution centres and factories, along with contractors refurbishing worn dock corners.
Why an L shape works at the dock corner
It covers the edge other buffers miss. A rectangular buffer guards a single patch of wall. The corner above and beside it stays bare, and that is where a badly aligned trailer can chip the concrete or bend the dock frame. With a 200mm wide arm in each direction, this bumper wraps that area.
One moulding, no joints. Two separate buffers butted together leave a seam for a trailer to catch. Here the corner is a single solid block, held by three bolts spread across both arms.
The bolts sit below the face. Each fixing hole has a 70mm recess, 50mm deep, so the bolt head and washer sit down inside the rubber rather than on the surface the trailer touches.
The same part fits either corner. The shape and hole pattern are symmetrical, so a quarter turn takes it from the left of a door to the right. You do not need to order a left and a right hand version.
What it does not do. There is no back plate or front plate for this bumper, so when it is worn you replace the whole unit. No compression or load rating is published for this line. If your dock needs a sliding face or a stated load figure, see the options further down.
- Protects the top edge and the face of the dock in one piece
- Three recessed bolt positions on 250mm centres
- Fits a left or right hand corner
- Optional 15mm L shaped packer brings the stand-off out to 115mm
- Free fixings included
Where it is used
You will find it at the top corners of raised concrete docks, beside dock levellers and on steel dock frames, as the photos above show. It also works as a repair where a corner has already been chipped and you want to stop the damage spreading. You can pair it with rectangular buffers lower down the dock face, which cover the main contact area while this bumper looks after the corner.

Is this the right dock bumper for you?
| Your situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| Top corners of the dock are exposed or already chipped | This L shaped bumper, one per corner |
| Your other buffers stand 115mm off the wall | This bumper plus the 450 x 450 x 15mm packer, one of each per corner |
| You need to protect the main dock face rather than the corner | 750 x 250 x 100mm rubber bumper |
| Fixed rubber keeps tearing as the trailer rises and sinks | 760 x 270 x 110mm sliding bumper, which also has a published compression figure |
Before you order, measure the stand-off of any buffers already on the dock. A new 100mm bumper should match them, because a corner standing further out than the rest will take the first hit from every trailer. If they stand at 115mm, add the 15mm packer behind the bumper. Then check that the 450mm arms clear your dock leveller, door guides and any pipework, and that all three bolt positions land on sound structure.
Fitting and care
At 14kg it can be handled without lifting gear, though a second person makes marking out quicker. Hold the bumper in place, mark the three holes, drill and bolt it back through the recesses. If you are fitting the packer, it goes between the wall and the bumper with its holes lined up, and each bolt needs to be 15mm longer. Have a competent installer confirm that the wall and fixings suit the loads at your dock, because the bumper can only pass on what the wall can take. Check the rubber and bolts as part of your routine dock inspections, and replace the bumper if it has split or come loose. A bumper protects the building and the vehicle from routine docking contact. It is not a vehicle restraint and does not replace wheel chocks or a banksman.
Frequently asked questions
How many do I need for one loading door?
Normally two, one at each top corner of the dock. The price shown is for one bumper, so add quantity 2 for a typical door. The same part fits both sides, so there is no left or right hand version to choose.
Are fixings included?
Yes, free fixings are included. Every dock is built differently, so ask your installer to check that they suit your wall before you fit the bumper. If your dock needs something different, the 28mm holes and 70mm recesses show what will fit.
Can I add a front plate or back plate?
No, neither is available for this bumper. It bolts straight to the dock as a single piece. If you want a replaceable face plate, look at our sliding dock bumpers, where the parts are sold separately.
Can I bring it further off the wall?
Yes. Choose the 450 x 450 x 15mm packer in the Size options. It is an L shaped rubber pad with the same three hole positions, fitted behind the bumper, and it takes the stand-off from 100mm to 115mm. The packer is sold on its own, so add one bumper and one packer for each corner.
Will the trailer hit the bolts?
The recesses are 50mm deep, so a correctly fitted bolt head and washer sit below the face of the rubber. Check your bolts stay inside the recess when tightened, and look at them during routine inspections as the rubber wears.
What are the bolt centres?
Three holes are set out on 250mm centres: two along one arm and one along the other, each 100mm in from the outer edges. The dimension drawing in the gallery shows the full layout so you can mark out before delivery.
