Description

This square clamp holds a glass panel to a flat post, box-section post or wall, and comes in raw zinc so you can powder coat it to match your steelwork. It measures 45 x 45 x 27mm, takes 8mm or 10mm glass with the rubber pads supplied, and closes round the glass edge with two countersunk screws. The price shown is for one clamp, with a minimum order of 8, enough for two panels.

Why use this clamp

Made to be coated. The raw zinc body has no lacquer or plating to strip, so powder coat bonds straight to it. Coat the clamps with your posts and rails and the whole balustrade comes out one colour, black, anthracite, white or any RAL shade your coater offers.

Flat back for flat surfaces. The back is flat, so it sits tight on square and rectangular box section, flat bar, timber posts and walls. No packing, no rocking.

Rubber all round the glass. Glass never touches metal. The pads spread the load along the edge and protect toughened glass from point loads.

Low cost per panel. Zinc is the most economical clamp in the range, which matters on long runs of balustrade.

Where it is used

Powder coated steel balustrades on mezzanines, stairs and landings; glass infill in box-section frames; screens fixed to walls; shop and office fit-outs; and indoor glass guards where a matching colour is wanted.

Raw zinc: coat it for outdoor use

Which glass clamp to choose

Zinc, flat post This clamp
Zinc, 42.4mm round post Zinc square clamp for 42.4mm
Zinc, 48.3mm round post Zinc square clamp for 48.3mm

Stainless, indoor, flat post 304 square clamp for flat posts

How many do you need?

Most panels are held by four clamps, two on each side, set about 150 to 200mm in from the top and bottom of the glass. A run of three panels between four posts takes 12. Tall or wide panels may need a third clamp each side; follow your glass supplier's or designer's layout.

Choosing the right option

Use this flat-back clamp on anything with a flat face at least 45mm wide. For round tube, pick the clamp curved for your tube size, as a flat back will rock on a round post. Check the glass is 8mm or 10mm. If the clamps are going outside and you are not powder coating, choose stainless instead.

Fitting and care

If coating, send the clamps to the coater with the screws and rubbers removed, and mask the threads. Mark the clamp heights with a level line, drill and tap each post, fit the back half, then place the rubber pads for your glass. Set the glass on packers, offer up the front half and tighten the two screws evenly until the glass is gripped firmly. Use toughened safety glass only. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price for one clamp?

Yes. The price is for one complete clamp with both halves, two screws and the rubber pads. The minimum order is 8, which holds two panels.

Can I use it outside without coating?

It is not recommended. Bare zinc dulls and can form white deposits outdoors. Powder coat it, or use a stainless clamp.

Does it need a hole in the glass?

No. It grips the glass edge between rubber pads and has no safety pin, so the glass needs no hole.

Will it fit a round post?

Not well. The back is flat. Use the zinc square clamp for 42.4mm or 48.3mm round posts.
