A big door left open for deliveries is an open invitation to pigeons, starlings and sparrows. Once they are roosting in the roof, they foul stock, floors and machinery, and in food and feed stores that becomes a hygiene problem. This clear PVC strip curtain hangs across wide doorways to help keep birds, weather and draughts out while the door stays open for people and vehicles. Wide 300mm x 3mm strips hang from a 430-grade stainless steel hook-on rail, so a big opening is covered with fewer strips and fewer joins. Choose from 12 widths from 2514mm to 5220mm and 6 heights from 2000mm to 3000mm.

Why it works

A barrier birds do not like to cross. Birds avoid flying into a moving, flexible screen they cannot see a clear way through. A curtain of overlapping strips across the doorway removes the open gap they use, while people and vehicles push straight through it.

Wide, heavier strips for wide doors. 300mm wide, 3mm thick strips hang straighter in a draught than narrow strips, and cover a 4 or 5 metre opening with far fewer joins.

Clear, so everyone can see. Standard clear PVC lets drivers and pedestrians see what is coming the other way, and lets daylight into the building.

Also keeps out wind, rain and dust. The same curtain cuts draughts and heat loss through an open door, and helps keep dust and leaves outside.

Hook-on strips. Each strip carries a stainless steel plate that hooks onto the rail, so a damaged strip lifts off and a new one hooks on without taking the curtain down.

Where it is used

Agricultural buildings, grain and feed stores, food storage warehouses, recycling and waste transfer buildings, industrial units, workshops and other wide doorways that stand open for long periods. Specifications

Choosing the right size

Width. Measure the clear width of the opening and choose a curtain wider than it, so the outer strips overlap the door frame on both sides and leave no gap at the edges. All sizes are nominal.

Height. Measure from where the rail will be fixed down to the floor. If you fall between two heights, go up one: the strips trim with a sharp knife so they finish just above the floor. Gaps at the edges and bottom are where birds get through, so close them.

Fitting and care

Fix the rail to a beam, lintel or other solid surface across the full width of the opening, because it is not self-supporting. Use M6 fixings to suit the surface, hook on each strip and check the overlap. The strips travel rolled, so a slight curl at the bottom is normal and relaxes in time; unroll them and leave them flat overnight before hanging. Fit the curtain inside the opening where you can, because weather wears PVC faster and clouds it. PVC strip is a consumable: replace strips as they wear with our hook-on clear replacement strips in 300mm x 3mm, cut to length with the plate fitted.
