Description
Wind flattens young crops, dries out soil and spreads disease, but heavy shade cloth starves plants of light. This 30% netting sits at the light end of the range. It takes the force out of the wind and cuts a little of the sun, while keeping most of the daylight your crop or stock needs. It comes in 50m and 100m rolls, 1.83m or 3.66m wide, in green or black, and is made from UV stabilised HDPE with an expected life of 8-10 years. If you run a farm, nursery or fruit field and need a long windbreak or light shade, this is the grade to look at. The price shown is per roll.

Why this netting works
An open weave that keeps the light. Up close, this mesh is mostly open space. The usual advice is to choose the least shade that does the job, so plants keep the light they need to grow. Aim for a mesh that holds temperatures below about 25-27°C. If 30% does that, a heavier grade only costs you growth.
A windbreak grade. In this family of nets, 30% is one of the grades recommended for windbreaks, because air passes through it rather than slamming into a solid sheet. That helps reduce water loss, heat loss, soil erosion and windborne disease, and it can help extend your growing season.
Stitching that holds it together. Durable HDPE flat tape threads run through strengthening double lock-stitch monofilament. This is what makes the mesh tear-proof, while keeping it strong and light enough to handle on site.
Built for years outdoors. It is UV stabilised and rot proof, with an expected life of 8-10 years.
Quick to put up. Button hole eyelets run along the top and bottom, so you can fix it with clips or cable ties.
At 30%, it is see-through, so it will not give you privacy or stop dust. For screening, choose the 95% shade netting instead.
Where it is used
Use it as a windbreak around fields, orchards, soft fruit and nurseries, and across side vents and ends on polytunnels. It also works across barn ends and as light shade for crops, plants, chickens and other livestock. It is a windbreak and shade mesh rather than a stock fence, so keep it behind a proper barrier wherever animals can reach it.

Choosing the right roll
| Size | Good for |
|---|---|
| 1.83m x 50m | Windbreaks around low crops, side vents and shorter runs |
| 3.66m x 50m | Taller windbreaks, polytunnel ends and barn ends |
| 3.66m x 100m | Long field boundaries and big sites, with fewer joins |
Green or black? Both are the same 30% grade at the same price. Green tends to blend in with hedges and crops. Black suits sheds and steelwork. If you need more shade or a stronger net, compare these:
| You need | Choose |
|---|---|
| Light shade and a windbreak | This 30% netting |
| A stronger monofilament windbreak with more shade | 45% monofilament net |
| Privacy, screening or dust control | 95% shade netting |
Fitting and care
Set your posts and straining wire first, then run the net along them and pull it taut. Fix through the eyelets at the top and bottom with clips or cable ties, and keep the spacing even so the load is shared. A windbreak catches a lot of wind, so use posts, stays and wires that are up to the length and height of your run, and have a competent person check any tall or exposed section.
Check the fixings after strong winds and replace any that have worn or come loose. Slack mesh flaps and wears faster, so keep it tight.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price per metre or per roll?
The price is per roll. Choose your width, length and colour from the menus at the top of the page. For example, the 3.66m x 100m roll covers 366m².
Can I see through it?
Yes. It is a very open weave, and you can clearly see through it. That makes it good for keeping light and views, but it won't work as a privacy screen. Choose our 95% netting for that.
Which fixings do I need?
Clips or cable ties through the button hole eyelets along the top and bottom edges are enough for the net itself. Fixings are not included, and you will also need posts and straining wire.
How long will it last?
It has an expected life of 8-10 years. It is UV stabilised and rot proof, but how long it lasts on your site will depend on exposure and how well it is kept taut.
Can I get a custom size?
Yes. It can be made to a bespoke size, with metal eyelets or border edging for extra strength. Call 01744 520 110 and we will go through it with you.
