Description
The clamp-on crossover joins two tubes where they cross, without taking anything apart. It is a single cast strap: its two eyes slip over one tube and its loop wraps round the other, so the tubes cross side by side at 90°. One grub screw pulls the two together and locks them. Because it goes on from the side, you can add it to a frame or guard rail that is already built. It suits 42.4mm outside diameter tube and is malleable cast iron with a galvanised finish. The price shown is for one fitting, with a minimum order of 10.
Why use a clamp-on crossover
Adds to existing structures. There is nothing to slide on from a tube end. Put a mid rail, a brace or a sign bar onto posts that are already up, without dismantling the run.
No cutting of the rail. The rail runs continuously past each post rather than being cut into lengths between posts, which saves cutting and keeps the rail straight.
Simple and light. One casting and one grub screw per joint, at under half a kilo.
No hot work. Everything goes together with a hex key, so it can be fitted in working buildings with no welding.
Where it is used
Mid rails on guard rails and barriers, extra rails added to existing frames, bracing on racks and staging, kick rails and sign bars fixed to posts, and alterations to tube structures without dismantling.

How many do you need?
One crossover for every place where one tube crosses another. On a two-rail guard rail with the mid rail fixed to the face of the posts, that is one per post on the mid rail.

Choosing the right size
Key clamps are sized by the tube's outside diameter, and both tubes must be the same size. 42.4mm tube is often sold as 1¼" or 32mm nominal bore. The same crossover is made for 33.7mm and 48.3mm tube.
Fitting and care
Hold the crossover against the post at the height you want, with the loop on the side the rail will run. Slip the eyes over the post if it is free at one end, or fit the strap before the post is capped. Lay the rail into the loop and tighten the grub screw firmly with a 5/16" hex key until both tubes are held. Check it after the first week and once a year after that. Touch up scratched galvanising with zinc-rich paint.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price for one fitting?
Yes. The price is for one crossover with its grub screw fitted. The minimum order is 10. For larger quantities, call us for a price.
Do the tubes line up on the same centre line?
No. The tubes cross side by side, touching, so their centre lines are 43mm apart. If the rail must be on the post centre line, use a cross or offset crossover instead.
Can I fit it to a post that is already capped at both ends?
The eyes are closed, so the post needs a free end to slide the strap over. For a fully fixed post and rail, the two-part add-on offset crossover fits without sliding.
Can the tubes cross at another angle?
No. It holds the tubes at 90°.
