Description
The add-on short tee lets you add a post to a tube rail that is already up, without taking anything apart. A standard short tee has to slide on from the end of the rail. This one comes in two parts: the body goes under the rail, the curved cap slides on over the top along hooked wings, and a grub screw in the cap locks it. The new post pushes up into the socket and is held by a second grub screw. It suits 42.4mm outside diameter tube, the most common size for handrails and guard rails, and is malleable cast iron with a galvanised finish. The price shown is for one fitting, with a minimum order of 5.

Why use an add-on tee
No dismantling. To put a normal tee in the middle of a run, you would have to loosen every fitting up to the end of the rail and slide it along. The add-on tee goes straight on where you need it.
Repairs and extra support. Use it to add an intermediate post where a rail has started to sag, to replace a damaged post, or to fix a new run onto an existing barrier.
Same strength, same look. It is a malleable iron key clamp like the rest of the system, so it sits in line with the other fittings on the rail and takes the same tube.
No hot work. Everything goes together with a hex key. There is no welding, no fire permit and no damaged galvanising.
Where it is used
Adding posts to existing guard rails and barriers, repairs after vehicle damage, retro-fitting extra support to long rail spans, adding a gate post or sign post to a rail, and alterations to walkway and platform rails in working plants.

Add-on or standard tee?
| Job | Choose |
|---|---|
| New guard rail, built from scratch | Standard 42.4mm short tee: lighter and cheaper |
| Adding a post to a rail that is already fixed | This add-on short tee |
| Same job on 48.3mm tube | 48.3mm add-on short tee |
| Crossing a new rail over an existing one | 42.4mm add-on offset crossover |
| Fixing the new post to the floor | 42.4mm oval base flange |
How many do you need?
One add-on tee for every post you are adding to an existing rail. If the run has a top rail and a mid rail, a new post needs one fitting at each rail: an add-on tee at the top, and at the mid rail an add-on tee or add-on crossover depending on whether the post stops there or carries on.
Choosing the right size
Measure the existing rail with a tape or vernier. 42.4mm tube is often sold as 1¼" or 32mm nominal bore. This fitting will not grip 48.3mm scaffold tube; use the 48.3mm add-on tee for that.
Fitting and care
Remove the cap. Offer the body up under the rail where the new post will go, then slide the cap on along the wings until it sits centrally over the rail. Push the new post into the socket, set it plumb, and tighten both grub screws firmly with a 5/16" hex key. Check the screws after the first week and once a year after that, and touch up scratched galvanising with zinc-rich paint. Spare 42.4mm setscrews are sold separately.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price for one fitting?
Yes. The price is for one complete add-on tee, body and cap, with both grub screws fitted. The minimum order is 5.
Do I need to take the rail down to fit it?
No. That is what it is for. The body goes under the rail and the cap slides on over it, wherever you need the post.
Is it as strong as a standard short tee?
It is a heavier malleable iron casting, made for the same job. Tighten the cap screw firmly so the cap cannot slide on its wings.
Can I use it on a sloping rail?
Only on level rails. The socket is fixed at 90°.
