Description
A long-thread adjustable gate hinge with a one-piece weld-on U bracket, for gates on thick posts. An M18 eye bolt with 135mm of thread goes right through the gate post and is locked by two hex nuts, while its eye is pinned inside a U bracket that welds to the gate in one piece. The long thread reaches through posts up to about 100mm and still leaves plenty to move the gate in or out and level it after hanging. Rated for gates up to 400kg on two hinges. The price is for one complete hinge.

Reaches through big posts. 135mm of thread passes through 80mm and 100mm box-section posts with thread to spare.
Plenty of adjustment. Move the nuts along the thread to set the gap, then lock them. Ideal where a post is out of line or a heavy gate has dropped.

Fitting
Use two hinges per gate leaf, one near the top and one near the bottom. Drill a 20mm hole right through the post at each hinge height, in a vertical line. Run one nut onto each bolt, pass it through the post and fit the second nut on the far side. Pin each U bracket onto its bolt eye, stand the gate on packers, and weld the brackets to the gate stile, grinding off the zinc first and keeping heat away from the pin. Take the packers out, move the nuts until the gate hangs level, then tighten both nuts hard against the post.
Care
Grease the pin once a year and check the nuts each spring. Cut off and paint any thread end sticking out into a walkway.

How thick a post will it go through?
Up to about 100mm, leaving room for the nuts and some adjustment.
Do I have to weld?
Yes, the U bracket welds to the gate. The bolt goes through the post with no welding.
Is it left or right handed?
Neither. It works on either side.
Will it carry a 400kg gate on its own?
No. The 400kg rating is for a gate hung on a pair of hinges. Heavy gates also need a firm post and a stop or wheel.
